Greene County district court, week ending April 2

In Greene County district court Mark Christopher Frohwein, 24, of Churdan was sentenced April 1 to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal for one year to the Greene County sheriff. Frohwein was fined $315 with a $47.25 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $400 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $202.28. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Juan Angel Guzman, 33, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault, amended from domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. Guzman was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $90 domestic abuse surcharge and an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $180. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Steven Logan Dzuris, 33, of Jefferson was sentenced April 2 to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of interference with official acts causing bodily injury. The jail term is consecutive to the term in a Greene County operating while intoxicated case. Dzuris was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge; both were suspended. The court found him unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees or court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

In an earlier case against him, Dzuris was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense. The prison term is concurrent to the term for OWI. He was fined $855 with a $128.50 surcharge; both were suspended. The court found him unable to pay court costs due to his incarceration. John Henry Hironymous, 64, of Fair Oaks, CA, was sentenced March 26 to seven days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft- fourth degree. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must also pay $160 victim restitution. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty as follows: Austin Eugene Block, 21 of Boone, driving while license revoked; Alan Dean Tuhn, 37, of Jefferson, forgery (23 counts) and theft- second degree; Lawrence Zavier Knox, 26, of Emmetsburg, possession of marijuana; and Amy Lynne Taylor, 45, of Lake City, burglary- third degree (two counts). Trial dates were set for May 11 for Tuhn and Knox, and for June 15 for Block and Taylor.

Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Samantha Isabel Menjivar, 19, of Coon Rapids was charged with operating while intoxicated. A warrant for her arrest was issued Dec. 12 and returned March 26. Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Randall Craig Clark, 58, of Webster City was charged with driving while license barred. The warrant was issued Feb. 4 and returned March 29. Justin Ray Lopez, 22, of Jefferson has been charged with flight to avoid prosecution. The warrant was issued Feb. 23 and returned March 30.

Cases were initiated during the week ending April 2 as follows: Ryan Joseph Murphy, 40, of Jefferson, ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise, and possession of methamphetamine; James Martin Moreland Jr, 46, of Perry, ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise, and possession of methamphetamine; and Jordan Alexis Holley, 19, of Scranton, possession of marijuana.
