Juanita Faye Wood, daughter of Otto Murphy and Leota (Wright) Murphy began her journey in this life on November 1, 1925, in Scranton.
After graduating from high school, she was employed at Jefferson Telephone Company before joining the Women’s Army Corps, or WAC, during WW II. Following her stint in the Corps, she married and began her domestic life, raising her five children, Mike, Chris, Char, Pat, and Jim.
Most locals knew her as an excellent cook, practicing her craft at Greene County Medical Center, and restaurants Schoppe’s Café, and Schaal’s Truck Stop on Highway 30, later known as Truck Haven.
Cooking was her skill she was born with, and it was not only her occupation, but also her favorite hobby. She collected cookbooks, which she would read as though they were novels. Faye enjoyed square dancing, singing with our dad, sewing and embroidery when time allowed.
Her greatest love was her family. She had a motto, “the more the merrier,” and she lived this motto, inviting anyone she thought needed a family to be part of ours. Christmas Eve at Faye’s was a production that brought her greatest joy. She planned and prepared for days ahead, ensuring everyone had their favorite dish served. Faye loved Christmas shopping weekends with the female members of the family, making Christmas goodies with her grandkids, and she reminisced all year long about the mini vacations she had with her adult kids. Faye looked forward to her frequent gab sessions with her sister Patricia. Pat would bring the cookies, and Faye would put the coffee on.
Faye was strong, resilient, intelligent, and hard working. She practiced giving people a second, third, fourth, etc. chance. She finished her journey in this life and began her eternal journey in the next life on Jan. 31, 2025.
Among the many welcoming her into heaven are her parents, Otto and Leota (Wright) Murphy, husbands Charlie (Doc) Hurley and LaVerne Wood; siblings Robert, Vida, Dennis, Clarence, Larry, and Jim; grandson Tanner Wolfe; daughter-in-law Gayle; son-in-law Bob Strabley; and many other beloved family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory and share her stories include her children Mike Grecco, Chris Strabley, Charlene (Don) Wolfe, Pat (Linda) Hurley, Jim Hurley and Jim’s extended family the Wedemeyers; grandchildren Margaret Grecco (Daniel), Melinda Mansion, Mike Grecco, Shelly (Rod) Scott, Rob (Annette) Strabley, Jarad Wolfe, Brandi (Gerald) Alston, and Brenda (Anthony) Rhoad; great-grandchildren Nathan Grecco, Jac Strabley, Jeff Strabley, Jon Strabley, Brittany Strabley, Nathan Wolfe, Emma Reinhart, Ellis Reinhart, Shea Wolfe, Shelby Weber, Darrius Martin-Alston and Nolan Rhoad; great-great-grandchildren Bradley Gardener, Kendal Hernandez, Karlo Hernandez and Odin Martin-Alston; sisters Iris Kelley, Patricia Smith, Beverly Appling and Bonnie Fogarty; and any other relatives and friends.
