The Greene County high school track and field teams competed at a 3A state qualifying meet in Winterset on Thursday, May 12. Both Ram teams finished fifth in a field of strong competition,
The boys team scored 65 points. Dallas Center-Grimes easily claimed first place with 173.5 points, followed by Carlisle with 145.
Several events will advance to boys 3A state competition. First and second place are automatic qualifiers plus the next eight best marks at-large.
Max Neese was first in the 200-meter race and second in the 100-meters. Daric Whipple claimed the championship in the 400-meter hurdles. Matthew Gordon was second in the shot put while Neese, Chase Stoline, Logan Lansman and Whipple finished first in the 4×100 relay. The 4×400 relay with Nick Schroeder, Ethan Woodruff, Neese and Whipple qualified for state at-large with a time of 3:34.29. They placed sixth at Winterset.

The girls team qualified three events for the 3A state meet.
The Rams finished fifth in team competition, scoring 76 points. Dallas Center-Grimes easily claimed first place with 178 points, followed by Carlisle with 146.
Megan Durbin was first in the high jump. She also qualified at-large in the 100-meter dash, finishing third. The sprint medley placed second. Runners are Melanie Doran, Laurin Lyons, Durbin and Olivia Hansen.
