UM Guest Day – On May 5 the Rippey Ladies Aid held their annual Guest Day in the fellowship hall of the Rippey United Methodist Church. A light brunch of egg casserole, cinnamon rolls and orange juice was served to 80 guests.

Multicolored butterflies adorning the tables gave evidence of the spring theme. Maralynn Rinker, who was in charge of decorating and Nancy Burrow, who made all the crocheted butterfly favors both sat at the registration table and welcomed the guests.

The program, entitled “A Tribute to Mothers”, was presented in the church sanctuary with Toni Roberts giving the welcome and then calling the roll of the different churches attending. Narrators Phyllis Bardole, Nancy Burrow, and Jo Bardole presented selections about “Mothers of Today”, “The Mother of Methodism” and “Mothers of the Bible”. The group sang three hymns accompanied by Midge Vannatta. Dick Bardole also sang two solos, “Mother” and “Mary Did You Know”.

The finale, a series of humorous skits entitled “The Rest of the Story” was narrated by Toni Roberts and the Biblical characters were played by Dick and Jo Bardole, George Millard, Gale Hicks, Philip Roberts, Connie Neese, Midge Vannatta, Bev Derry, Nancy Burrow and Maralynn and Myron Rinker. The players “hammed it up” with the hope that everyone enjoyed the fun, food, and fellowship of this year’s event! ~ Toni Roberts, Secretary of the Ladies Aid

Greene County Singers – The newly organized Greene County Singers were part of the program Sunday, May 15, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone for the Greene County courthouse on May 15, 1916.

Local members of the Singers for this event were Mary Weaver, Mary and Kevin Hick, Dick Bardole, Nancy and Dale Hanaman. Jean Borgeson is also a part of the group but was unable to attend.

News around Rippey – Marilyn Heater, Kathy Jackson and Nancy Hanaman attended the guest day program held at the Scranton United Methodist Church on Friday. An interesting program followed the refreshments.

Phil and Toni Roberts enjoyed a Mother’s Day lunch with Toni’s sister, Joyce Macek in Algona.

On May 13, Toni Roberts was a guest of her daughter Lori Bardole for a belated Mother’s Day lunch date in Des Moines. The two enjoyed their “girls’ day out” with shopping and a visit to Canoyer Nursery in Grimes. Nothing purchased — just good ideas for home and garden. That night Phil and Toni traveled to Stuart for a birthday swim party at AmericInn Hotel for their granddaughter Addie Burkett’s 12th birthday.
