Sheriff’s report

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Monday, June 22: At 11:05 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Rippey. At 5:38 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in Rippey.

Sunday, June 21: Routine activity reported.

Saturday, June 20: At 2:40 pm a deputy assisted with a missing child in Grand Junction.  The child was located.

Friday, June 19: At 4:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Scranton. At 8:05 pm a deputy assisted with goats on the roadway near 195th St and R Ave in Dawson Township.

Thursday, June 18: At 8:18 pm a deputy and Paton Fire responded to a gas leak in the 400 block of Orchard Ave in Paton Township. A loose fitting was located and fixed.

Wednesday, June 17: At 6:48 am a deputy assisted with a cow out in the 1100 block of N Ave north of Jefferson. At 3:02 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in Grand Junction. At 8:29 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a court order in Scranton. At 8:54 pm Brianna Bacon, 31, of Carroll was booked in to the jail for failure to appear.

Tuesday, June 16: At 2:49 pm a deputy assisted with horses out on D Ave near 120th St in Cedar Township. At 2:59 pm a deputy and Jefferson fire department responded to a grass fire near 255th Street and Quaker Ave in Grant Township. At 6:51 pm Jacob Geisler, 23, of Gowrie was booked into the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*. At 9:51 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 4 near 257th St south of Jefferson. Delima Ostdiek of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2019 Ford Fusion. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,000.

Monday, June 15: Routine activity reported.

Sunday, June 14: At 9:11 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog chasing livestock in the 1400 block of J Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 1:03 pm a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Scranton Fire responded to a oven fire in the 600 block Irving St in Scranton. The fire was out when the fire department arrived. At 3:17 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department in executing a search warrant in the 300 block of S. High St in Jefferson. At 6:42 pm Max Leyendecker, 36, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of forgery*.

Saturday, June 13: At 9 pm the sheriff, a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Grand Junction Rescue responded to a single vehicle rollover accident near 300th St and U Ave in Washington Township. Conner Wood, 18, of Harcourt was northbound on U Ave operating a 2004 Nissan 350z Coupe at a high rate of speed, Wood entered the west ditch, traveled several hundred feet rolling several times, and coming to rest in the east ditch. Wood was transported to the Greene County Medical Center with suspected injuries. He was later arrested for operating while intoxicated*. He was booked into the jail on the charge.

Friday, June 12: At 9:07 am Hunter Dennis, 21, of Casey was booked into the jail on a charge of driving while license revoked*. At 6:46 pm Benjamin Potts, 37, of Granger was booked into the jail on a charge of driving while intoxicated*.

Thursday, June 11: At 7:18 am the sheriff investigated a vehicle in the ditch on Hwy 4 near 305th St in Greenbrier Township. The vehicle was not damaged and the owner had left the scene. At 7:36 am a deputy assisted with a tree down along with downed power lines in the 700 block of Locust St in Scranton. At 10:12 am a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping in Scranton. At 2:10 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with a pursuit that started on Hwy 141 near Highway 4 and ended in Greene County on 305th St and Terrace Ave in Franklin Township. Lucas Smith, 19, of West Des Moines was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and eluding. At 4:17 pm Elijah Finerane, 23, of Denison was booked into the jail for a violation of probation. At 4:32 pm a deputy assisted the Iowa Department of Correctional Services in the 800 block of Stanton St in Scranton.  At 9:49 pm a deputy picked up found drug paraphernalia in Scranton.

Wednesday, June 10: At 1:29 pm Daniel Holinski, 26, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*.  At 4:15 pm a deputy assisted with a dog running at large near X Ave and 230th St in Junction Township. The dog was taken to the Greene County animal shelter. At 6:21 pm Kristina Greene, 51, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of assault and interference with official acts*.

Tuesday, June 9: At 11:05 am Lorena Andrade, 28, of Perry was booked into the jail on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 6:03 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with executing a search warrant in the 200 block of N. Elm St. At 8:04 pm Bryant Margetta, 39, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, manufacturing/delivering/possessing with the intent to deliver, and drug trafficking methamphetamine*.

Monday, June 8: At 9:47 pm Angela Peterson, 45, of Carroll was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia*.

Sunday, June 7: At 8:09 am a deputy investigated found property near 305th St and S Ave in Washington Township. At 11:07 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog in Grand Junction. At 9:02 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog in a different location in Grand Junction.

Saturday, June 6: Routine activity reported.

Friday, June 5: At 5:24 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office assisted by the Jefferson PD conducted a search warrant at 1506 Westwood Dr, Jefferson. Suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and firearms were seized. Charges are pending lab results. At 6:56 pm deputies conducted a search warrant at 304 W. Paton St in Paton. A vehicle was seized that was used in several criminal mischief crimes. At 10:42 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Scranton.

Thursday, June 4: At 1:24 pm the sheriff investigated a reported car in the ditch in the 1500 block of 235th St west of Jefferson. No vehicle was located. At 1:40 pm the sheriff located a stolen vehicle in Rippey.

Wednesday, June 3: At 7:52 am a deputy investigated several complaints of criminal mischief around and in Churdan. At 2:07 pm a deputy investigated a reported vehicle theft in Grand Junction. The vehicle was not stolen; it was repossessed. At 6:31 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Scranton. At 7:58 pm Scott Slinger, 53, of Bayard was booked into the jail for a probation violation*.

Tuesday, June 2: At 3:14 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted Calhoun County with armed subject in a shed in the 3000 block of Preston Ave in Lohrville. At 9:45 pm a deputy investigated a theft in Grand Junction.

Monday, June 1: At 11:28 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Scranton. At 3:19 pm Shelby Hose, 18, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana*.  At 5:01 pm a deputy investigated a theft in Rippey. At 5:30 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted with trees down around Jefferson.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
