Letter to the editor – Does a welcome sign belong at the cemetery entrance?

To the editor,

Jefferson has a nice looking Welcome Sign on the East edge of town on old highway 30.  Can anyone explain to me why the sign is placed directly in front of the Jefferson Cemetery.  I would loved to be welcomed to a town by all the deceased people buried there.  Are they the most welcoming people in the town?  Who made the proposal?   Who approved the plan?  Who paid for the project?  When was it put up?

I have lived in Greene County since birth, less 10 years in Webster and Benton Counties, I am 73 today.  Not sure if this is the most insulting promotion of the town or county I have ever witnessed.

Pat Griffin, Jefferson
