City councilwoman, nurse announces campaign for Iowa Senate District 24 seat

Ogden city councilwoman and long-time operating room nurse Margaret Liston on Monday announced her campaign for the Iowa Senate in Senate District 24, which includes all of Boone, Greene, and Guthrie Counties as well as the northwest portion of Dallas County. Senator Jesse Green currently represents Senate District 24.

She released the following statement:

“I decided to run for the Iowa Senate because I do not like the direction that the state of Iowa is heading and believe we need a change. I believe that to get on track, our area needs a Senator with a proven track record of listening to their constituents and working to rebuild and renew rural Iowa. I plan to do that by working to invest more in our public schools to ensure every child has the opportunity to pursue a world-class public education, hold our state accountable for providing clean drinking water, and protect Iowan’s freedom to make their own healthcare decisions.”

Margaret Liston is a longtime city councilwoman in Ogden and a former operating room Nurse at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. She was born in Perry and raised in Beaver, and is active in her community by working to bring business opportunities and new residents to Boone County.

Liston added, “Iowans deserve a better deal than what they’ve been getting from politicians in Des Moines. I want to give the residents of Senate District 24 a new voice in the Iowa Senate and bring opportunity back to rural communities.”
