Scranton council passes new regs on tree planting

The Scranton city council approved the first reading of a new ordinance relating to tree planting by residents during their Jan. 10 meeting. Ordinance 2024-01-09-A restricts property owners from planting trees in the area located between the sidewalk and the curb.

The second reading of the ordinance is scheduled at the Feb. 13 meeting.

Several reports were missing due to inclement weather. The library board had changed their meeting. Public works employees were busy moving snow. Clerk Crystal Rice gave a brief report for them stating things were going well with the water and sewer.

The Community Center reported lots of activity during the month of December.

The Coffin solar project was discussed. It will need to be approved by the zoning committee. If it is approved, a building permit will be needed. The council tabled the matter.
