Jefferson Telephone Company Charitable Trust recently donated $10,000 to Greene County Christian Action Resource Center (ARC) to assist area residents struggling due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Greene County ARC is located at 1006 N. Vine St in Jefferson. Director Shirley Haupert, along with a steady stream of volunteers, open the facility’s doors every Wednesday morning from 8:30-11:30 am and by appointment.
Greene County ARC serves on average 140 families per month, with a steady increase the last few months. The generous donation received from Jefferson Telecom will support the purchase of food and personal care items for individuals in need in Greene County. The funds will purchase food from the Iowa Food Bank and also be used locally for purchases at Fareway and HyVee. Greene County ARC has seen increased numbers due to COVID-19, and Haupert believes that the need will only increase as time continues.
“The generous donation from Jefferson Telephone Company Charitable Trust was truly a godsend,” Haupert said. “We are in difficult times and this funding will help to provide food to local individuals in need. The donation helps to fill in the gaps with funding to purchase staples such as meat, eggs, etc. that families depend on during the COVID-19 pandemic. We cannot thank Jefferson Telecom enough for their contribution to our community resource center.”
Greene County ARC not only provides food to area residents but clothing and other personal care items are available. Haupert and her volunteers work closely with New Opportunities director Teresa Lansman to provide additional resources as the need arises.

The local Greene County ARC is an excellent resource during times of need and we wanted to be at the forefront to show our support.”
