Grow Greene County funding COVID-19 assistance

Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation provides assistance to Greene County during COVID-19

Grow Greene County held its annual awards night on April 7 but the board quickly moved to exploring how they could assist in immediate needs arising from COVID-19 throughout the county. This pandemic has made a huge impact on the people of all ages.

The Grow Greene County board has determined four areas to support at this time: education/families; food/essentials; public health; and Greene County small businesses. A total of $35,000 will be spread across the four areas.

The Greene County Community Schools and Paton-Churdan Community Schools have been supporting students and families since school was closed right after spring break. Special signage for the Class of 2020 graduates, school supplies and activities will be funded by Grow Greene.

A donation to the Food Bank of Iowa will be earmarked for the Greene County entities who use those services – the Action Resource Center (ARC) and weekend backpack programs at both school systems. New Opportunities will receive a donation to assist families with utility payments.

Greene County public health will receive financial support for a mobile shed and other PPE supplies needed.

A project to support small businesses owned by Greene County residents which have been mandated to close or have limited hours is being planned and will be announced soon in collaboration with Greene County Development Corporation, Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce and Jefferson Matters: Main Street.

Grow Greene County encourages residents to continue to support all of our local businesses during this challenging time.
