Boys eighth, girls fifth at Van Meter Invitational

The Ram track and field teams completed at the Van Meter Invitational April 4. The boys finished eighth of eight teams while the girls finished fifth of seven teams.

Carter Morton claimed first place in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6’ 4”.
Tyler Miller took second place in the shot put, throwing the shot 46’ 5”.

The 4 X 200m relay team of Tyler Teeples, Jaxon  Warnke, Brent Riley and Colby Kafer placed second in 1:36.08, and the 4 X 100m relay (Teeples, John Rosado, Riley, Kafer) placed third in 46.41 seconds. A third place finish also came from Bryce Stalder in the 200m dash with a time of 25.59 seconds,

The sprint medley relay (J. Morton, Daniel Rivera, Will Hansen, Warnke) finished in fifth place with a time of 1:43.12.

Boys coach Chad Morton said he didn’t have a full team and he tried some different line-ups. ‘We were battling some things that are out of our control,” the coach said. “I’m happy with the results from this meet. We still have several things to work on, but we saw some excellent results and there’s a bright future still this season.

Team scores for boys teams were ADM 141.5, AC/GC 123.5, CAM 106, Van meter 104.5, Winterset 103.5, Earlham 64, panorama 49, and Greene County 43.

The Ram girls had no first place finishes but three second place finishes. Brianna Osterson placed second in the 200m dash with a time of 27.92 seconds and second in the 400m dash in 1:05.89. The 4 X 100m relay team of Paige Heaning, Maddy Sigler, Makala Kafer and Osterson finished second with a time of 54.03 seconds.

Maddie VanPelt placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 14.27 seconds. Right behind her was Tieryn Tucker in 14.38 seconds, good for fourth place.

Other fourth place finishes came from Kafer in the 200m dash in 28.97 seconds, Sigler in the 400m dash in 1:09.16, Izzy Bravard in the 100m hurdles in 17.80 seconds and in the 400m hurdles in 1:16.23, and the 4 X 400m relay in 5:03.23.

The 4 X 200m relay (Tucker, Addi Adcock, Madison Grow, Madison Hayes) took fifth place with a time of 2:12.12. The sprint medley relay (Tucker, Bravard, Heaning, Kafer) was in fifth place at 2:06.1.

In field events, Brooklyn Olson placed second in the discus with a throw of 113’ 10”, and Osterson took second in the long jump at 15’ 5”. Olson placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 31’ 7-1/2.’

Team scores for girls team were Panorama 164, Van Meter 127, AC/GC 115, ADM 114, Greene County 88, CAM 72, and Coon Rapids-Bayard 7.
