Cram the Cab June 25-30 at Jefferson Fareway

Greene County Farm Bureau’s third annual Cram the Cab event will be held June 25-30 at the Jefferson Fareway Store, John McCormick, Greene County Farm Bureau president, recently announced.

When the big, red tractor courtesy of Rueter’s Red Power in Grand Junction arrives at the store, that will mark the start of this year’s Cram the Cab campaign. The goal will be to “cram” the cab full of non-perishable food items which will then be donated to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center (food pantry).

During the week, grocery carts will be located inside the entrance to the store where shoppers can drop off non-perishable food items. Shoppers will also be given the opportunity to round up to the nearest dollar on their grocery bill, with the difference given to the ARC. Straight cash donations will also be accepted at the store or may be dropped off at the Farm Bureau office in Jefferson. A new option for shoppers this year will be the ability to purchase a $10 or $20 pre-packed bag of non-perishable food items.

On Saturday morning, June 30, Farm Bureau board members will be present from 9 to 11 a to assist shoppers, answer questions about agriculture, and hand out “Quick Facts about Agriculture” pamphlets. Also during this time, board members will have America Needs Farmers and Farm Strong T-shirts available for a $10 donation to the food pantry.

“This event responds to the local needs of our county food pantry as we all work together to stomp out hunger. Last year’s event was very successful, and it was fun having the tractor and the excitement it generated,” said Fareway store manager Doug Monaghan.
