Rams struggling in baseball, 0-4 in recent action

The Greene County baseball team fell 3-1 at Saydel Friday, May 25. The Rams lost a non-conference game to Winterset 11-4 and two Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games to Gilbert 6-0 and Nevada 8-7. The Rams are 0-3 in conference action and 1-4 overall.

Saydel 3 ~ Rams 1 (May 25)
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead after one inning and added two more runs in the sixth. The Rams pushed across a run in the seventh but could add no more.

Austin Delp suffered the loss on the mound, throwing all six innings and yielding three runs on four hits. He fanned six and walked one.

Greene County mustered just three hits on the night. Doubles were stroked by Tom Gannon and Wade Adcock while Ben Wilkens popped a single.

Gilbert 6 ~ Rams 0 (May 30)
Gilbert shut out Greene County 6-0 Wednesday in Jefferson. The Tigers scored two runs in the second and four in the seventh inning, while the Rams’ eight hits could bring no one across the plate.

Nick Breon picked up a double and single while Jordan Patterson had two singles. Also recording base hits were Tom Gannon, Bryce Hoyle, Brent Riley and Tyler Teeples.

Ben Wilkens suffered the loss in four innings of work on the mound. Brandon Hoyle threw in relief. Together they yielded six runs on seven hits, walked five and struck out seven batters.

Winterset 11 ~ Rams 4 (May 31) 
Greene County led off with a 1-0 advantage but in the bottom of the second inning with two outs, Winterset collected seven consecutive hits for five runs and a 6-1 lead. The Rams closed the gap 6-4 with three runs in the fifth but the Huskies added five to snatch the victory 11-4.

Three Ram pitchers went to the mound, with Nick Breon taking the loss. Relief pitchers were Bryce Hoyle and Wade Adcock. The trio allowed 11 runs on 12 hits with four bases on balls. Nine runs were earned.

Jordan Patterson had a double and two singles as the Rams collected nine hits. He also drove in a run. Adcock had a single and two RBIs on the night while Ben Wilkens and Tyler Teeples each doubled. Austin Delp had a single and one run batted in. Breon and Brent Riley added base hits.

Nevada 8 ~ Rams 7 (June 1)
Greene County and Nevada played a tight game at Nevada Friday with the Cubs coming out on top 8-7. The score was tied 4-4 after two innings; 5-5 after five, and 7-7 at the end of six. Cub Trent Stahl had four hits, including the game winner in the bottom of the seventh.

Austin Delp and Wade Adcock combined to yield eight runs on 11 hits, walked five and fanned seven. Adcock was tagged with the loss.

Delp and Tyler Teeples each had three hits on the night, including a double apiece. Wilkens also cracked a two-bagger. RBIs were recorded by Brent Riley, Delp, Jordan Patterson, Bryce Hoyle and Adcock.
