Letter to the editor – Bruce Banister

To the editor,

Even though I think the career academy is a good idea I have some concerns. I see no reason for buying 80 acres of farmland. I think the proposed location is poor. Students will no longer be able to walk to school. There will be traffic and safety problems. Why not build at the present high school site and save the money?

I see no point in building a performing arts center with an auditorium to seat 700. This is pure folly. The auditorium at the high school is perfectly good and I can’t imagine ever having to seat 700 people for a school performance.

Finally, I have not heard one word about raising academic standards. Let’s face facts, the middle and high school ratings are not good. A new building won’t cure this. If the bond issue passes, changes can and should be made to the plan.

In spite of my concerns I hope it passes.

Sincerely, Bruce Banister, Jefferson
