Scrabble Run part of this year’s Relay for Life

The 5K run/walk that’s part of the Greene County Relay for Life will have a new look this year in keeping with the 2017 theme, “Relay for Life – A Game Changer.”

The new Scrabble 5K run/walk will debut April 22.  The event is patterned after the popular board game Scrabble, with runners collecting letter tiles at designated stations along the run. At the end of the race, participants can buy extra letters if they wish, and then see how many words they can make with their tiles. Participants will be entered into a drawing for a variety of prizes based on how many words are produced.

Also this year, a new route has been designed, taking participants through less congested parts of Jefferson.

Runners/walkers are encouraged to make their plans early as the first 250 registrants will receive a commemorative bandana and relay bracelet as well as a complimentary meal. There is a reduced fee for those whose registrations are postmarked on or before April 14. And as an extra bonus, 5K participants who are also on teams registered for the Relay for Life can apply their 5K registration fee to their team’s fundraising total.

Best efforts will be made to hold the event rain or shine. Click here for the registration form. Forms are also available at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.
