Greene County district court, week ending July 1

In Greene County district court Jeremy Thompson, 22, of Waterloo was sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault-serious, amended from domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for one year. He must complete a batterer’s education program at his own expense. He was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge. He must also pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the jail time he serves and $221.38 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

Tanner Dean Bush, 29, of Churdan was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must follow the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already completed at his own expense and he must complete a drinking drivers course at a community college. A judgment was entered for a $1,250 civil penalty, $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s costs and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Jaime Jaurez Coronado, 37, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- second offense. All but seven days was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He must comply with the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone, and he must complete a community college drinking drivers course. A judgment was entered for a $1,875 fine with a $656.25 surcharge, a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge, $1,000 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. Coronado must also pay sheriff’s room and board for the jail time he serves. (Sentencing: Kester)

Dean J. Kokinis, 61, of Glenview, IL, was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. A judgment was entered for a civil penalty of $315 with a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Anthony Grife, 23, of Scranton pleaded not guilty June 24 to charges of sex abuse- second degree (three counts), lascivious acts with a minor, lascivious acts with a child, sexual exploitation of a minor- cause to engage in act, and sexual exploitation of a minor- promote film. A trial was set for July 18.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Jasmine Fluker, 27, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine- first offense (two separate cases, one initiated based on a search warrant conducted March 2 in which a warrant was issued June 19 and returned July 1, and a second initiated June 28); Jennifer May Millard, 46, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- first offense; Joseph Ross Jabaay, 37, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; William Russell Griffin, 41, of Rippey, domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury and solicitation to commit felony; Charles Edward Henderson, 24, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- first offense; and Robert Earl Rivers Sr, 55, of Fort Dodge, assault while displaying dangerous weapon.

Information is available since the return of arrest warrants that Kathryn Lynn Welch, 52, of Grand Junction has been charged with possession of marijuana- second offense, and that Jacob Charles Lane, 27, of Grand Junction has been charged with possession of marijuana- first offense and possession of methamphetamine- first offense. In both cases the warrants were issued April 27 and returned June 23.
