The walk in Jefferson at noon began at Hy-Vee and ended with a light lunch at the Greene County Community Center after walking to the Milwaukee depot and back. About 40 persons participated in the walk.

In nearby Lohrville, the fire department sponsored a “Walk of Fire” at 6 pm. Twenty-five walkers went to the Ralf Earwood Memorial Trail and back to the fire station for an open house and light supper.

The Healthiest State Initiative is a privately led public initiative intended to inspire Iowans and communities throughout the state to improve their health and happiness. To achieve this goal, individuals, families, businesses, faith-based organizations, not-for-profits and the public unite in a community-focused effort to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation.

Executive director of the Healthiest State Initiative is Jami Haberl, a Lohrville native and a 1996 graduate of Southern Can Community School. Haberl encourages all Iowans to strive to be healthier and happier by improving all aspects of their life. In addition to increasing physical activity, Haberl suggests making small changes like adding extra fruits and vegetables to your diet or learning something new every day.
