Good year at the golf course

Jefferson Community Golf Course newThe Jefferson Community Golf Course is having a successful season despite a pair of large tournaments being rained out.

Golf course manager Micah Destival reported to the Jefferson city council at the regular council meeting Sept. 8 that in mid-August revenues had surpassed the entire 2014 season.

There are 128 paid season passes and 15 junior members, Destival said.

A large senior tournament was rained out in July and the annual three-course tournament was rained out last weekend. Destival said the senior tournament will return, but not until next summer. The three-course tournament will not be rescheduled for this year but will be planned again for next summer.

Destival said there have been many rentals of the clubhouse for parties and he looks for that to continue. Golf cart rental revenue has also increased.

“It’s been a good year and I appreciate all the help I’ve gotten from the city council,” Destival said. “Things are good. I’ve enjoyed it.”

This is the third season the city has owned the golf course, and the first the council has hired a manager as a city employee rather than contracting out management.
