Mother Nature waited until September to turn up the heat to what Iowans expect in August. On Aug. 30, the high temperature was only 67 degrees. The high on Sept. 4 was 88 degrees.
The rain a week ago Friday totaled 1.52 inches. Total for the week ending Sept. 4 at 6 am was 1.57 inches, according to volunteer weather observer John Beltz.
