police_dept_badgeFollowing are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Tuesday, June 30: At 12:32 pm an officer investigated a collision in the parking lot east of Sparky’s. Kevin Vieth had parked a semi tractor-trailer rig beside a 2009 Peterbuilt tractor trailer owned by Cooper Farms. Vieth attempted to pull away and turn right onto the frontage road. In doing so the trailer of the rig Vieth was driving struck the front of the parked tractor-trailer which caused an estimated $3,500 in damage to it. Vieth’s             trailer, which is owned by McDowell and Sons Lime Company, did not sustain any damage. No citation was issued due to the incident occurring on private property. At 2:11 pm staff at HyVee reported two males had shoplifted alcohol from the store. Charges are pending at this time.

Monday, June 29: At 5:44 pm the Perry police department requested an officer’s assistance in identifying a female who may live in Jefferson that committed a theft in Perry.

Friday, June 26: At 12:29 am an officer assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office at 732 P Avenue. At 5:52 am an officer removed a deer that had been struck by a vehicle from the roadway in the 1200 block of N. Elm St. At 9:40 am an officer accompanied a Department of Human Services worker to a residence in the 300 block of S. Wilson to check on the welfare of a child. Criminal charges are pending at this time. At 2:09 pm a caller reported an erratic driver on S. Mulberry St. The officer located the vehicle at a residence in the 500 block of E. Vest St. The officer arrested Lindsey Faye Wilson, 21, of Jefferson, and charged her with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence – third or subsequent offense (class D felony).

Thursday, June 25: At 11:14 pm a complainant reported harassment at a residence in the 200 block of N. Olive St.

Wednesday, June 24: At 2:26 pm a complainant reported harassment and trespass by a male at 106 E. State St.

Tuesday, June 23: At 12:02 am a complainant reported harassing text messages received at a residence in the 100 block of E. Clark St. At 12:08 am a complainant reported trespass at a residence in the 200 block of N. High St. At 10:07 am Lauren Clark reported a property damage collision on Highway 30 in front of American Athletic Inc. Clark had stopped for the flagger when a vehicle made slight contact to the back of the US Government-owned 2015 Ford Focus she was driving. The other vehicle left the area. No damage was found to the Ford Focus. At 2:46 pm the JPD received a referral from the Department of Human Services Child Protection Intake Center of an alleged sex abuse case at a residence in Jefferson. An investigation has been initiated. At 7 pm a complainant reported a burglary at Pauley Mini Storage.

Monday, June 22: At 5:01 am Julia Jones reported striking a deer in the 1500 block of N. Mulberry. Her 2003 Buick Rendezvous sustained an estimated $800 in damage. At 4:18 pm a resident reported a female going door to door selling school supplies in the 300 block of S. Locust Street. The officer found the female was registered to sell door to door with the city. At 9:04 pm a complainant reported a male within an apartment in front of a window without any clothing on in the 100 block of N. Olive Street. The officer found the male to be sleeping with the shades open. The officer was eventually able to wake the male and speak to him regarding the issue.

Friday, June 19: At 5:36 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision in the HyVee parking lot. Courtney Hamilton backed from a parking stall as Mary Higgins entered the lot. Their vehicles collided. Damage was estimated at $1,500 to Hamilton’s 2006 Ford Freestar and to Higgins’ 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. At 6:52 pm a complainant reported harassment by a male which was occurring in the 200 block of N. Wilson.

Tuesday, June 16: At 11:23 am an officer impounded an abandoned bicycle that was located at E. Park and S. Vine St.

Monday, June 15: At 9:41 am Home State Bank personnel reported a counterfeit $50 bill had been passed at a local business over the weekend. At 10:04 am David Wilson reported a crossing arm had come down and struck his 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe in the windshield at the Cedar St Union Pacific railroad crossing. Damage to the windshield and roof the vehicle was estimated at $500. A Union Pacific employee told the officer that the crossing arms have been programed to stay down longer after a train passes due to an incident of some kind that happened in Nebraska.

Sunday, June 14: At 6:19 am a complainant reported a male had been sleeping on her sidewalk and had moved to her garage. The officer arrested Tyler Gathercoal, 23, of Grand Junction for public Intoxication – first offense*. At 5:10 pm a complainant reported trespass at a residence in the 500 block of E. Clark St. At 6:39 pm a complainant reported harassment at a residence in the 900 block of N. Pinet St. At 9:23 pm a complainant reported a teenage male had been assaulted at a residence in the 100 block of E. Clark St. The complaint was forwarded to the Department of Human Services. At 9:33 pm personnel at Kum & Go reported shoplifting. The officer interviewed the accused; charges are pending.

Saturday, June 13: Officers dealt with a fight at the entertainment area in the 200 block of S. Wilson. Chad Ferguson, 42, and Traci Ferguson, 45, of Jefferson were both cited for disorderly conduct (simple misdemeanor)*.

Friday, June 12: At 3:45 pm a complainant reported a female had stopped at a residence in the 700 block of S. Vine St and harassed minor children about a stolen bicycle. At 4:04 pm a complainant in the 700 block of W. Harrison St reported an assault. The officer determined the incident occurred in the county.

Thursday, June 11: At 3:50 pm an officer investigated a backing collision in the 600 block of N. Oak St. Linda Rice backed a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix from a parking stall and struck a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire owned by Michael Danley which was legally parked facing north on Oak St. Rice was cited for unsafe backing upon a hghway. Damage to Danley’s vehicle was estimated at $500.

Wednesday, June 10: At 8:01 am a complainant reported harassment at 1000 W. Adams Street. At 11:55 am a complainant reported a small girl in the roadway near W. Reed and N. Maple St. The officer located the 3-year-old female and returned her to her residence. The incident was forwarded to the Department of Human Services. At 1:37 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle collision in front of the Lincoln Building in the 100 block of E. Lincoln Way. Helen Finn was driving a 1996 Ford Taurus and had attempted to pull into a parking stall. In doing so the right side of Finn’s vehicle sideswiped a parked 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee owned by James Wyckoff. Finn was cited for failure to maintain control. Her vehicle had $200 in damage. Wyckoff’s Jeep had an estimated $2,000 in damage to the left side and front fender. At 3:46 pm personnel at Angie’s Tea Garden reported a suspicious male at the restaurant. A Hispanic male described to be about 40 years of age, 5’6” tall, 200 pounds with graying black hair had been found standing behind the cash register in the business. When discovered, the male ran to the kitchen area and asked if they were selling a particular item before departing out a side door on the business. At 8:21 pm a complainant reported the theft of a 20” BMX bike from the Jefferson swimming pool.

Tuesday, June 9: At 1:58 pm an officer assisted with a backhoe on fire at the city yard waste site. *** Pursuant to an reported theft by an employee at Kum and Go which was reported on Feb. 12, a warrant has been issued charging Danielle Brady Ferguson, 33, of Jefferson with theft – first degree (class C Felony)*.

Monday, June 8: At 4:22 pm a traffic stop in the 600 block of W. Adams St resulted in the arrest of Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 35, of Jefferson,for an outstanding Greene County warrant for carrying weapons (aggravated misdemeanor)*. The officer additionally charged Lawrence with driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor), possession methamphetamine (serious misdemeanor), possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), and an additional charge of carrying weapons*. A passenger in the vehicle, Kimberly Marie Smith, 42, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and carrying weapons*. During the traffic stop a female approached the officer and ignored repeated requests not to interfere with the officer. As a result, Lorrie Leiann Lawrence, 56, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with interference with official acts (simple misdemeanor) and permitting an unauthorized person to drive (simple misdemeanor)*. All three were booked into the Greene County jail. The Greene County sheriff’s office K-9 assisted with the traffic stop.

At 6:56 pm an officer investigated a backing collision in a parking lot at Hy-Vee. Debra Monthei and Danielle Hermansen were parked across from each other. Their vehicles collided as they backed from their parking stalls. Hermansen was cited for driving while license suspended. Her 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was not damaged. Damage to Monthei’s 2010 Chevrolet Equinox was estimated at $1,500. At 9:01 pm a complainant reported his 14-year-old granddaughter and 13-yearpold grandson had taken a vehicle without permission. The children were later located in Scranton. The officer cited Aubrie Leinanne Lawrence for failure to have a valid license.

Sunday, June 7: At 6:13 pm officers assisted a Greene County deputy with a traffic accident in the 1300 block of Highway 30. At 7:02 pm an officer was requested at a residence in the 100 block of Lincoln Place for a male smoking marijuana. The officer arrested Jordan Stewart, 22, for possession of controlled substance – to wit marijuana – second offense (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*.

Saturday, June 6: At 5:26 pm staff at HyVee reported a theft of money through a short change scam. The officer was able to identify the individual through surveillance video. A warrant has been applied for charging Gary Paul Kennedy, 62, of Council Bluffs with theft – fifth degree*.

Friday, June 5: At 6:51 am an officer investigated a personal injury traffic accident at the intersection of N. Pinet and W. Adams St. Jeffrey Ford was northbound on Pinet. Nellie Gustin was westbound on Adams. The front of Ford’s 1997 Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck struck the left front of Gustin’s 1996 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. Gustin was transported to Greene County Medical Center by ambulance for evaluation. Ford was cited for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right. Damage to Ford’s truck was estimated at $2,000. Damage to Gustin’s truck was estimated at $3,000. At 11:07 am an officer investigated an accident in the Fareway parking lot. Wilma Bender advised she was driving her 2011 Ford Fusion forward in the parking lot and struck a light pole. Bender’s vehicle sustained approximately $3,000 in damages. At 3:10 pm a complainant reported possible criminal mischief in the 1100 block of McDuffie Drive. At 3:26 pm a complainant reported harassment in the 400 block of W. Russell St.

Thursday, June 4: At 9:48 am a complainant reported a bicycle stolen from a residence in the 400 block of S. High St. At 4:27 pm an officer investigated a single vehicle property damage accident in the 1300 block of Highway 30. Johnny Weber of Ames was westbound the road construction just west of Highway 4 when his 1999 Dodge Dakota dropped off the north edge of the concrete and became high centered on the 12-inch drop. At 5:21 pm a complainant reported illegal activity that had occurred in the 200 block of N. Oak Street.

Wednesday, June 3: At 12:43 pm an officer investigated a traffic collision at N. Elm and W. Adams St. Dean Wolf was northbound on Elm St. Arlene Gustin was southbound on Elm. She attempted to turn left onto Adams, but struck the left rear of Wolf’s vehicle. Gustin was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to her 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was estimated at $750. Damage to Wolf’s 2005 Cadillac Deville was estimated at $850.

Monday, June 1: At 5:48 am Christine Anderson advised an officer that she had struck a deer in the 1300 block of N. Grimmell Road. At 9:30 am a complainant reported a fraudulent transaction involving a sale that occurred on eBay. *** Two counts of child stealing (class C felony) have been filed against Allison Ann Marie Tucker, 20, of Illinois, in connection with an investigation initiated on May 31 where two children had been taken from their residence in the 400 block of N. Grimmell Road without the mother’s permission*. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
