Greene County district court, week ending Nov. 28

In Greene County district court Stacia M. Day, 27, of Grand Junction was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense. She was placed on informal probation for one year. She must pay a civil penalty of $1,250, $90 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. She must also complete a drinking driver’s course at her own expense. A charge of child endangerment was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

A judgment was entered Nov. 26 in Greene County magistrate court in a case initiated in district court against Shannon Marie Otterson, 35, of Jefferson. The charge against Otterson was amended to harassment-third degree from harassment-first degree. She was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge. She must pay $60 court costs and restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees in an amount to be determined.

Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Nov 28 as follows: Meldon James Fetters, 56, of Bayard, OWI-first offense; and Paul Bradley Elm, 48, of Webster City, forgery, identity theft and theft-second degree.

In Boone County district court Larry Lee Warren Varnell, 21, of Churdan pleaded not guilty Nov. 18 to a charge of providing alcohol to a minor causing death. A trial date was set for Jan. 13. Varnell is charged in the death of Aaron Beaman, 20, of Jefferson last September.
