Winners told for Hot August Night

Greene County Chamber and Development has announced winners in Peoples Choice voting at Hot August Night last Thursday.

HAB Barb WarnerA 1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk shown by Barb Warner of Carroll won the Peoples Choice award for cars.

HAN Frank StamperFrank Stamper of Humboldt showed the Peoples Choice pickup truck,  a 1966 Ford F150.

HAN Neese LaSalleGrand Junction resident Allen Neese’s 1939 LaSalle Series 55 (left) was selected for the Spirit Award.

The RPM Club of Carroll won $200 for having the most vehicles at the show. The club generously donated its winnings to the Jefferson Kiwanis Club for local projects.

The official total, according to committee member Chuck Wenthold, was 340 entries, with 131 entries from Greene County and 209 from outside Greene County. One vehicle came from as far away as Sioux City.

An estimated 3,000 to 4,000 persons participated in Hot August Night, including 150 or so who watched a free showing of Grease at the Sierra Community Theatre at the end of the evening. The movie was sponsored by Lisa Jaskey doing business as Lisa Neilsen CPA, PC.

Hot August Night was planned by Greene County Chamber and Development with volunteer Toni Linberg as event chair. Business sponsors were  McAtee Tire & Service Center, Ben Franklin/Radio Shack, McLaughlin International, Home State Bank, Wild Rose Entertainment, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, Unger Insurance, Doc’s Stadium Bar & Grill, Oly’s Corner, Kim Rueter, Edward J. Jones,  Metro Club Sports Bar, Rueter’s Red Power, The Printer’s Box, Regency Park Nursing & Rehab, Fareway, and Hy-Vee.
