Rams win last game of regular baseball season

The Greene County Rams won their final regular baseball game 10-6 over Nevada Wednesday evening at Allensworth Field in Jefferson. The Rams finished the regular season 11-14 overall and 8-9 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

Senior Wes Tipton was the winning pitcher. He went 5-2/3 innings, with junior Colton Fitzpatrick relieving and getting a save. The Nevada Cubs had 11 hits for the game, as did the Rams.

Sophomore Daric Whipple had three infield hits. Junior Alex Rasmussen got a triple and a double and two runs batted in, and classmate Riah Nelsen had two singles and two RBI. Fitzpatrick hit a single and drove in a run and Tipton had an RBI. Sophomore Tyler Beger and juniors Jordan Hostetler and Jordan Challen also hit singles.

The Rams and the Cubs scored two runs each in the first inning, and the Rams came back even stronger and scored four runs in the second innings. The score was 8-2 after five innings, but Nevada scored four runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 8-6. The Rams scored the final two runs of the game in the sixth inning.

The Rams begin play in 3A District 15 Friday, July 18, at 7 pm vs. sixth-rated Harlan in Harlan.
