Jefferson will become a much more welcoming place for visitors and tourists with the addition of public restrooms on the courthouse square in the Greene County Welcome Center.
Deconstruction began this week, transforming the outside of the former filling station/bank/insurance office at the southeast corner of the square. The building, which is being given a Federalist façade, will be surrounded by the Thomas Jefferson Gardens.
Inside, along with handicap-accessible restrooms, will be 600 square-feet of exhibit space. Displays will highlight Thomas Jefferson’s agricultural heritage. There will also be two workspaces with desks and a small kitchenette.
The Greene County Welcome Center is a collaborative effort of Greene County Chamber and Development, Jefferson Matters: Main Street, and the Thomas Jefferson Gardens. Completion is anticipated in early July.
