Greene County district court, week ending Oct. 25

In Greene County district court Matthew Seth Losee, 42, of Paton was granted a deferred judgment Oct. 17 after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Losee must pay a $315 civil penalty and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. Court costs were $136. A case against Losee in magistrate court in which he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. Court costs were not listed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Ryan David Baugh, 42, of Jefferson was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. He may complete a 48-hour OWI- first offense program in lieu of the jail time. He must also complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone and he must also complete a community college drinking driver’s school. Baugh was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge; half the fine and surcharge will be waived after he shows proof of obtaining a temporary restricted license. He must pay a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Donna Jean Gathercoal, 47, of Grand Junction was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of unlawful possession of a prescription drug. She must also pay a $10 DARE surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Roger Dean Good, 48, of Des Moines was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of OWI- second offense. The sentence is concurrent to a sentence in a Polk County case. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Good was fined $1,875 with a $656.25 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. Court costs were not listed. A charge of driving while license barred was dismissed as part of a plea agreement. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Christopher Hollis Christian, 37, of Ames, driving while license barred; Angela Dawn Beem, 46, of Jefferson, criminal mischief- third degree; and Craig Steven Johnson, 40, of Jefferson, OWI- first offense. Trial dates were set of Dec. 5 for Christian and Beem, and of Jan. 9 for Johnson.

Cases were initiated as follows: Brett Dwaine West, 41, of Jamaica, burglary- third degree (motor vehicle), and theft- second degree; Erick Paul Johnson, 46, of Jefferson, theft- first degree, dependent adult abuse- exploitation more than $100; Robert Christopher Jean Thoma Jr, 19, of Scranton, possession of marijuana- first offense; Eddie Jermane Lee, 35, of Fort Dodge, OWI- first offense and driving while license revoked; and Jacob A. Grife, 18, of Scranton, possession of marijuana.
