Greene County district court, March 12-25

In Greene County district court Hossein Kolbehdari, 21, of Ankeny was granted a deferred judgment March 14 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled substance – first offense. He must pay a $300 civil penalty, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE), a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge and $5,181.12 court costs. Kolbehdari will be on unsupervised probation for 12 months. Charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, assault on a peace officer and gathering where controlled substances are unlawfully used were dismissed. Charges of disorderly conduct, harassment-third degree, assault, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft-fifth degree in magistrate court were also dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Steven J. Lance Edward Kruse, 32, of Scranton was sentenced March 16 to two years in prison on a charge of driving while license barred. The prison term is concurrent to prison terms in another Greene County case and a Guthrie County case, and consecutive to prison terms in a Webster County case and a Polk County case. A judgment was also entered for a $625 fine with a $218.75 surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

Coleman Keith Marlow Jr, 34, of Grand Junction was sentenced to 10 years in prison on a charge of sex abuse – third degree, amended from sex abuse – second degree. Once the prison term is finished he will be supervised by the Department of Corrections as if on parole for the remainder of his life, and he must complete a batterers education program. He was fined $1,000 with a $350 surcharge; both were suspended. He was placed on the sex offender registry and assessed a related $250 civil penalty. On the domestic abuse charge Marlow was sentenced to two years in prison, concurrent. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. A judgment was entered for $1,803.33 victim restitution and $506.66 court costs. (Sentencing: Oeth). Marlow has filed an appeal.

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Jeremy Thompson, 22, of Waterloo, domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow; Andrew Lee Jensen, 33, of Jefferson, criminal mischief-fifth degree and escape from custody; Jacob Eugene Day, 26, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; Preston Perin, 52, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault causing injury; and Steven Logan Dzuris, 28, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault-second offense. Trial dates were set for May 10 for Jensen, Day and Perin, and for June 21 for Thompson and Dzuris.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Matthew John Goff, 42, of Jefferson, possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense (two counts), burglary-third degree (two counts) and theft-third degree; Atem Akuei Malual, 33, of Gymon, OK, operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense; Nickalos Andrew Brown, 20, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana-first offense; Jaime Juarez Coronado, 37, of Jefferson, OWI-second offense; Branden Gerrick Smith, 39, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault-third or subsequent offense; Nicholas Anthony Balderas, 24, of Jefferson, public intoxication- third or subsequent offense; Shiela Ann Rice, 42, of Paton, assault while displaying a weapon; Nathan Flinn, 23, of Rippey, possession of methamphetamine-first offense, possession of marijuana – first offense, unlawful possession of prescription drug and driving while license revoked; and Jacob Thomas Monthei, 17, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver not for sale.
