Greene County district court, week ending Feb. 13

In Greene County district court Nathan William Merrill, 33, of Jefferson was sentenced Feb. 13 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)-third offense. The prison term is to be concurrent to the sentence in another Greene County case on an OWI offense. All but 30 days was suspended, and Merrill was given credit for time already spent in an inpatient treatment facility. He was placed on probation for five years ad his driver’s license was revoked for six years. He must also complete a community college drinking drivers course and recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation. Merrill was fined $3,125 with a $1,093.75 surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). A charge of driving while license barred was dismissed. He must pay $100 court costs and $90 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees.  (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

Meldon James Fetters, 56, of Bayard was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI-first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must pay a civil penalty of $1,250 along with $90 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Douglas Duane Owen, 32, of Harcourt was sentenced to two days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of OWI-first offense. He was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. He must complete any recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation at his own expense and he must complete a community college drinking drivers course. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves, as well as $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Joshua Matthew St John, 35, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of prescription drugs (nine counts), possession of marijuana, forgery, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (two counts), and child endangerment; Jennifer Ann Andrew, 29, of Adel, OWI-first offense; and Cody Lee Sellman, 25, of Scranton, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, and manufacture of marijuana. Trial dates were set for April 7 in every case.

Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Feb. 13 as follows: Lance Edward Kruse, 32, of Scranton, driving while license barred; Lance Michael Ross, 18, of Grand Junction, carrying weapons and possession of marijuana – first offense; and Kevin Armando Montoya, 18, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana – first offense.
