Twenty Greene County FFA members started their FFA careers at a Greenhand fire-up event at Atlantic High School Wednesday. Students learned about opportunities in FFA and met members from other chapters.

Trinity Lutheran helps Houston family in hurricane recovery
Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson made relief efforts after Hurricane Hugo more personal, “adopting” a young couple who are teachers at Lutheran South Academy to help. The couple had major losses in the flooding after Hurricane Hugo. The Jefferson congregation sent a semi load of appliances, household items and more to the couple, with delivery this past Thursday.

Third graders at Greene County Elementary had a memorable lesson on the lifecycle of butterflies as participants in a monarch eggs pilot project. Lynne Campbell, the Prairie Lakes AEA science/STEM consultant through Iowa State University, and the Iowa Monarch Conservation Consortium, brought the project to the school.

The Churdan public library board and staff will serve a spaghetti supper Thursday, Oct. 5, from 5 to 7 pm in the Paton-Churdan school cafeteria.
