Jefferson Elks to host Christmas Day dinner

On Christmas Day, the Jefferson Elks Lodge #2306 will prepare and serve a traditional Christmas meal to those individuals and couples who would otherwise be spending the day alone. Elks and Does members, their spouses, children, and grandchildren, will donate time from their Christmas Day to prepare and serve this free Christmas meal.

VFW tells local essay contest winners

Winners at Greene County Middle School in the Patriot’s Pen essay contest, sponsored locally by VFW Post 9599, have been announced. Andrea Grundon (left)  won first place. She was awarded $100 and her essay will be forwarded to the state competition. Avery Bardole (right) placed second and received $50, while Cheyanne Ferguson (center) placed third place and received $25.

Jefferson police officers issued 12 citations and 42 warnings during a special Traffic Enforcement Program Nov. 22-29. According to police captain Mark Clouse, officers arrested and cited one driver for operating while intoxicated. November warmer, wetter than normal

November was warmer than usual, but despite that, Jefferson received more snow than usual for the month. According to volunteer weather observer John Beltz, the average high temperature was 51.6 degrees and the average low temperature was 32.6 degrees. Normal is an average high of 45.5 degrees and an average low of 25.6 degrees.
