Christene Rae Thompson, 50, of Jefferson was sentenced June 5 in Greene County district court to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of murder in the first degree in a jury trial in April. She must pay $150,000 restitution to the estate of Richard Thompson, her former husband and the murder victim. Prior to the trial she had changed her plea to guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault with a dangerous weapon. She was sentenced to two years in prison on that charge. Thompson was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge and a $90 domestic abuse surcharge. The fine and surcharges were suspended. Ryan Michael Patrick Oclair, 28, of Luther was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury, amended from domestic abuse assault- injury or mental illness. All but three days of the jail term was suspended and he is to receive credit for time served. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must also pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $131.50 court costs. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: James Don Miller, 49, of Glidden, ongoing criminal conduct- unlawful activity and theft- second degree; Matthew Michael Rank, 17, of Churdan, criminal mischief- third degree; and Andrew James Jalas, 28, of Jefferson, driving while license barred. Trial dates were set for Aug. 25 in every case.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending June 12 as follows: Angela Jean Peterson, 45, of Carroll, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense; Landon Arthur Vote, 17, of Paton, criminal mischief- first degree; Bryant James Margetta, 39, of Jefferson, unlawful manufacture/ possess with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance- second offense, and unlawful manufacture/ deliver/ possess with intent to manufacture or deliver mixture containing methamphetamine; Daniel David Holinski, 26, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated; Lucas Darrell Smith, 19, of West Des Moines, possession of marijuana; Hunter Don Dennis, 21, of Casey, driving while license revoked; and Benjamin Keith Potts, 37, of Granger, operating while intoxicated.
