Dorla Neiderheiser, 1938 – 2026

Dorla Neiderheiser, age 88, long-time Paton resident, died May 20, 2026. Funeral services will be held May 26 at Salem United Methodist Church in Paton.

Interment will be in Paton Township Cemetery, Paton.

Dorla Jean Neiderheiser, the daughter of Darrell and Jessie Drayer Shriver, was born on March 25, 1938, in Jefferson, and departed this life on May 20, 2026.

She lived her life to the age of 88 years, 1 month, 26 days.

Dorla graduated from Paton High School in 1955.  After graduation she went on to Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, where she graduated as a registered nurse on September 5, 1958. She started her job at Greene County Hospital in September 1958.

On September 6, 1958, Dorla was united in marriage to Claud Robert Neiderheiser at the Salem United Methodist Church in Paton.  To this union were born two daughters: Peggy Jo Propst (the late Robert Propst) of Ankeny, and Kari Lynn Schwarting (Dr. Steven Schwarting) of Osage.

Dorla worked for Dr. Alton Knosp at his office in Paton from May 1959 until 1962 when she went back to Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson as a night shift supervisor.  In 1971 she moved to the Jefferson Clinic as a registered nurse so she could spend more time with her family. Dorla retired in 2003 and went to PRN until her official retirement in February 2009. She and Claud lived in Paton until his death in August 2024. She was a member of the Paton United Methodist Church and Paton United Methodist Church Women’s Group, Paton Auxiliary, and the Paton Coffee Girls.

Left to mourn her passing are daughters Peg and Kari with her husband Steve; her grandchildren Mackenzie and Cody of Des Moines, Ben and his wife Chloe of Osage, Amber of Ft. Collins, CO, Gabrielle of West Des Moines, and Victoria and Ian of Osage; great-grandsons Oliver and Leo of Osage; brother Larry Shriver of French Settlement, LA, and brother and sister-in-law Loren and Diane Shriver of Estes Park, CO; and several nieces and nephews.  

Those that preceded her in death were her husband Claud; her parents, and in-laws Francis and Erma Neiderheiser; brother Duane Shriver; sister Linda Thomas; and son-in-law Bob Propst.
