Greene County district court, week ending May 15

In Greene County district court Nolan Roger Wilson, 28, of Grand Junction pleaded guilty May 12 to a charge of child endangerment resulting in death (a Class B felony), avoiding a jury trial scheduled to begin that day on a charge of murder- first degree. Wilson also pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- impeded blood/air flow causing bodily injury. Sentencing is set for June 30. The Class B felony carries a sentence of 50 years in prison.

Shelby Hose, 18, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled substance. She must pay a $430 civil penalty and was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for six months. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any treatment recommendations at her own expense. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. The court found her unable to pay court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Hose was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. Matthew Lynn Dyurbin, 33, of Jefferson was sentenced to one year in jail with credit for time served after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. All but seven days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may serve the jail sentence in three increments, and he may complete the Des Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of four days of the sentence. He must complete a drinking drivers course and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Durbin was fined $1,875 with A $281.25 surcharge. Court costs were $140. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Anthony Ray Owens, 45, of Guthrie Center, burglary- third degree, attempted burglary- third degree, theft- second degree, theft- fourth degree, and criminal mischief- second degree (two counts); Dakota Rae Sheer, 34, of Rippey, attempted murder, burglary- first degree, assault while participating in a felony, harassment- first degree, and child endangerment; and Monica Lynn Volquartsen, 28, of Fort Dodge, burglary- third degree. Trial dates were set for July 21 for Owens and Volquartsen, and for June 16 for Sheer.

Cases in initiated in district court as follows: Brian Suane Schumacher, 62, of Lohrville, operating while intoxicated; Julie Ann Simms, 59, of Carroll, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense, and possession of contraband in a correctional facility; and Melanie Kay Strain, 52, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated.
