In Greene County district court Daniel Joseph Tasler, 34, of Jefferson was sentenced Nov. 19 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of credit card fraud less than $10,000- minor victim. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He was sentenced to one year in jail on a charge of theft- fourth degree and was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. On a charge of possession of marijuana he was sentenced to six months in jail and fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. The jail/prison terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for three years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete all recommendations of treatment at his own expense. The court found him unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Matthew Jordan Moran, 29, of Denison was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct- fighting/violent behavior, amended from assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. He must complete a substance abuse evaluation and cooperate with all treatment. He was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. Court costs were $631.25. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Duane Allan Johnson, 67, of Denison was sentenced to four days in jail, with credit for time served, after he changed his plea to guilty to charge of driving while license revoked. He was fined $1,000 with a $150 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $400 for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Neal W. Schoon, 62, of Bayard was sentenced Nov. 19 to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of stalking- first offense. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $90 stalking surcharge. He must pay a total of $897.81 court costs in all cases. Schoon was sentenced to a total of 900 days in jail, with all but 42 days suspended in two magistrate case in which he pleaded guilty to five of nine (total) counts of violation of a no contact order. Four counts were dismissed. The prison/jail terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. The sentences will be consecutive if they’re served. A charge in magistrate court of harassment- third degree was dismissed. Court costs for all cases were $897.81. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Travis Douglas Stanek, 35, of Grand Junction was sentenced to one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- strangulation, amended domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury. All but 42 days of the jail term was suspended, with credit for time served. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must complete a batterers treatment program at his own expense. Stanek was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $90 domestic abuse surcharge and an amount not to exceed $400 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $171.50. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Weltzin, 29, of Grand Junction, operating while intoxicated, and in separate cases, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and criminal mischief- second degree, and possess or carry dangerous weapons while under the influence; Derrick Charles Beckner, 44, of Crystal, MN, possession of marijuana; Melissa Sue Dopheide, 44, of Breda, child endangerment; Jared Nathan Ransom, 45, of Denison, operating while intoxicated and child endangerment; Jon Edward Strabley, 26, of Grand Junction, operating while intoxicated; and Nicholas Curtis Walther, 31, of Albert Lea, MN, possession of marijuana and theft- first degree. Trial dates were set for Jan. 27, 2026 in every case.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant Nov. 17 that Dawn Kay Maiers, 43, of Ames is charged with ongoing criminal conduct and unauthorized use of credit card more than $1,500 but less than $10,000. The case was initiated March 11. A warrant was served Nov. 17 to Travis Ryan Armstrong, 36, of Scranton on charges of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense and possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. That case was initiated Sept. 7.
Cases were initiated during the week ending Nov. 21 as follows: Gunnar Stone James Star, 22, of Hobe Sound, FL, possession of marijuana; Zeke Xavier Star, 19, of Hobe Sound, FL, possession of marijuana; Sydni Jane Strauss, 24, of Stuart, FL, possession of marijuana; and Tamra Mills, 45, of Rippey, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense, two counts, failure to affix a drug stamp, two counts, and controlled substance violation.
