Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 23

In Greene County district court Dustin Evans, 39, of Jefferson was sentenced Sept. 21 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of sex offender registration violation- second of subsequent. He was fined $1,015 with a $153.75 surcharge. The court ruled he is unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees or court costs. Two charges of child endangerment by registered sex offender were dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Morgan Brooke Hughes Hernandez, 23, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. A judgment was entered for a $430 civil penalty. She will be on probation for one year to Boone/Greene County Probation, and she must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Amy Tasler, 43, of Grand Junction was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for time served after she pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. Tasler must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program. She was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge and a $90 domestic abuse assault surcharge. The court ruled she is unable to pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Jennie Christena Schuttler, 42, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. A judgment was entered for a $430 civil penalty. She will be on probation for one year to Boone/Greene County Probation, and she must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must pay an amount not to exceed $450 for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed with $60 court costs assessed to Schuttler. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty in district court as follows: Alex Garron Treft, 32, of Grand Junction, assault causing injury or mental illness; Donald Michael Schultz, 23, of Webster City, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness (two counts), and domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Kent Eugene Peninger, 562, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine- second offense; and James Lin Wells, 66, of Urbandale, forgery and identity theft less than $1,500. Trial dates were set for Nov. 1 in every case.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Roberto Villarreal, 67, of Perry, operating while intoxicated; Candice Marie Ortiz, 34, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; Alehandro Flores, 29, of Des Moines, OWI- second offense; and Robert Aaron Kinnick, 74, of Coon Rapids, leaving scene of accident- death.
