Police blotter – August 2022

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Wednesday, Aug. 31: At 7:56 am a complainant reported a stray dog in the 700 block of W. Madison St. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility.

Wednesday, Aug. 30: At 4:17 pm an officer investigated a backing accident involving a Greene County school bus near Deer Run and Hill Rose Ln. Mark Renslow of Grand Junction was backing a 2010 Bluebird school bus when he struck a fiberglass street light pole. The pole was broken off at the ground and the light was destroyed. The officer is determining the damage amount. The bus was not damaged. At 5:01 pm officers arrested Eric Christopher Rosenow, 38, of Jefferson at Washington Park on an outstanding Hamilton County warrant for failure to appear*. During the arrest, suspected methamphetamine and marijuana were located and seized from Rosenow. Charges pending lab results.

Monday, Aug. 29: At 11:34 am a Fed Ex driver advised as he was driving in the 300 block of S. Pinet St a driver backed a vehicle from a private drive, striking his truck. The driver left the area after the collision. The officer is investigating. At 11:57 am staff at Jefferson Telecom requested a welfare check on a female lying on the ground near S. Vine and W. Harrison Sts. The female advised she was fine. The officer requested her to leave the private property. At 8:04 pm a complainant advised of a transient female near W. Madison and S. Elm Sts. The officer checked on the female, who advised she was fine. At 8:32 pm an officer investigated a rear end collision on Highway 30 near Mulberry St. Brooklyn Gifford of Carroll was westbound on Highway 30 driving a 2016 Buick Verano owned by Douglas Gifford of Carroll. Taylor Gierstorf of Boone was following Gifford driving her 2021 Hyundai Elantra. Gifford slowed to turn onto Mulberry; Gierstorf failed to slow down and struck the rear of Gifford’s vehicle. Gierstorf was cited for fail to stop in assured clear distance ahead. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

Sunday, Aug. 28: At 8:49 am an officer assisted a deputy with an arrest in Grand Junction. At 2:20 pm an officer arrested Miranda Lynn Schlicht, 23, of Ralston for failure to appear on an original charge of violation of a protective order*. At 7:21 pm a complainant reported a possible theft of vehicle license plates from a residence in the 400 block of E. McKinley St.

Saturday, Aug. 27: Routine activity reported.

Friday, Aug. 26: At 10:45 am an officer began investigating a sex abuse in Jefferson. At 11:34 am a complainant advised he had caught a cat in a live trap in the 1300 block of Riverside Drive and requested to meet an officer at the animal holding facility. At 4:22 pm a complainant reported an open manhole in Russell Park. The officer placed the cover back over the open pipe.

Thursday, Aug. 25: At 8:01 am an officer responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of E. Harrison and S. Olive Sts. Elizabeth Gross of Jefferson was northbound on Olive St driving her 2014 Jeep Wrangler. Chad McCollum of Jefferson was eastbound on Harrison St driving his 2009 Chevrolet Express van. The front of Gross’s vehicle collided with the front passenger side of McCollum’s vehicle. Gross was transported by ambulance for possible injuries. McCollum was cited for failure to yield to vehicle on right. Damage to his van was estimated at $2,500. Damage to Gross’s vehicle was estimated at $20,000. At 9:41 while on patrol an officer located a stray dog in the 500 block of E. Lincoln Way. The officer caught the dog and took it to the animal shelter. At 10:22 am a complainant reported ongoing harassment. The officer is investigating. At 11:27 am an officer responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of W. Lincoln Way and Elm St. Robert Jackson of Pine, AZ, was southbound in the inside lane of Elm driving his 2022 Audi A4 sedan. He stopped as posted. Nanette Cheville of Scranton was eastbound on Lincoln Way driving her 2014 Jeep Compass Latitude. Both drivers proceeded from the stop signs and collided in the intersection. Jackson was cited for failure to yield to vehicle on right. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $2,500. Damage to Cheville’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000. At 10:52 pm employees at Sparky’s One Stop reported a person on the property who had previously been served a “ban and bar” notice and could not be on the property. The officer is investigating the possible trespass. During the investigation, the officer observed a subject driving a vehicle who was not a valid driver. As a result, the driver was cited for driving while license suspended and failure to maintain registration plate. At 11:57 pm an officer performed a traffic stop on Highway 30 near Orchard Ave west of Jefferson. As a result of the stop Robert Villarreal of Donna, TX, was arrested for operating while intoxicated*. He was also cited for speeding (80 in a 55 zone) and failure to provide proof of financial liability.

Wednesday, Aug. 24: At 8:12 am an officer was called to HyVee in regard to a subject who had trespassed on the property after being banned. The officer is investigating. At 1:43 pm an officer arrested Kent Peninger on a Greene County arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance- second offense (aggravated misdemeanor)*. At 10:27 pm an officer was called to the 300 block of N. Elm St. in regard to an argument that was taking place outside a business. As a result of the investigation, Brian Weltzin of Sheldahl was arrested for disorderly conduct and juvenile was issued a citation for minor in possession of tobacco. *****As a result of an investigation initiated 8/21, an officer has requested arrest warrants for Anthony J. Nunez of Jefferson on charges of assault and interference with official acts*.

Monday, Aug. 22: At 12:24 am an officer went to a residence in the 500 block of N. Olive St to locate a subject for whom there were current Greene County arrest warrants. As a result, Hayley Brown of Jefferson was arrested for two counts of interference with official acts, interference with official acts causing bodily injury, and two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations*. Matthew Hurley of Jefferson was also arrested for interference with official acts*. At 11:40 am an officer was dispatched to HyVee for a report of theft. The officer is investigating. At 1:59 pm a complainant reported he had left his wallet in a restroom at the Greene County Fairgrounds. When the complainant realized this, he returned and the wallet had been taken. The complainant had seen one other male present when he was at the restroom and provided his vehicle description to the officer. While investigating, the officer located the suspect’s vehicle at a residence in the 400 block of S. Cedar St. The officer located the vehicle’s driver, Tyler Armstrong. As a result of the investigation the wallet was located. Tyler Armstrong was arrested for theft- fifth degree, interference with official acts, and driving while license suspended (simple misdemeanors)*. He was also cited for operating non-registered vehicle. At 9:02 pm an officer removed a bat from a residence in the 100 block of N. Cedar St.

Sunday, Aug. 21: At 2:14 pm a complainant reported a possible domestic assault at a residence in the 300 block of E. Harrison St. The officer is investigating. At 8:28 pm a complainant reported a bat in her residence in the 300 block of S. Pinet St. The officer removed the bat.  

Saturday, Aug. 20: At 12:39 pm an officer was dispatched to the area near Pinet St and W. Lincoln Way for the report of a dog running loose in the area. The officer located the dog and its owner. As a result of the investigation, Bryant Margetta of Jefferson was cited for animal running at large – prohibited.

Friday, Aug. 19: At 12:41 pm an officer assisted a DHS worker with a case in Jefferson. At 2:08 pm a complainant reported an assault having possibly occurred several days earlier. The officer is investigating. At 3:15 pm an officer was dispatched to the HyVee parking lot for a minor two-vehicle accident. Both parties exchanged information without the assistance of the officer.

Thursday, Aug. 18: At 2:53 pm officers assisted Jefferson fire with a fire alarm at Greene County High School. A belt on a pump had caused smoke in the building. No fire was located.

Wednesday, Aug. 17: At 6:22 pm an officer investigated a backing accident in the parking lot at Greene County Middle School. Nick Madsen of Jefferson attempted to back a 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup truck owned by Daniel Madsen out of a parking spot but struck a parked 2014 Toyota Camry owned by Kyle Kinne of Jefferson. The Kinne vehicle had a reported $1,000 in damages. The Madsen vehicle was not damaged. At 7:37 pm a complainant reported a stray dog in the 400 block of W. Madison St. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility. At 8:18 pm an officer investigated an accident at S. Elm and W. Russell Sts. Rafe Michaelsen of Jefferson was northbound on Elm driving a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina owned by Andrew Michaelson. Frankie Kolbe of Bagley was southbound driving his 2010 Cadillac. Michaelsen attempted to turn west onto Russell St but struck Kolbe’s vehicle. Michaelsen was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn. Damage to the vehicle he was driving was estimated at $500. Damage to Kolbe’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

Tuesday, Aug. 16: At 1:40 pm an officer investigated a two-vehicle accident near Elm and W. Lincoln Way. Sherry Graven of Jefferson was northbound on Elm driving her 2021 Toyota Venza. Randy Wilson of Gowrie was driving a 2014 Freightliner and trailer owned by Miller Acres of Harcourt. Wilson attempted to change lanes and struck and forced Graven off the roadway. Wilson was cited for unsafe passing. Damage to the semi-trailer was estimated at $500. Damage to Graven’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. At 2:14 pm management at Oly’s Corner reported receiving multiple insufficient funds checks from a Jefferson subject. The officer is investigating.

Monday, Aug 15: At 2:04 pm staff at Hy Vee reported a customer had left a prescription in a shopping cart and left the store. Another customer came in and grabbed the cart to shop. The customer noticed the prescription in the cart and took it from the store after checking out. The officer identified the customer and went and spoke with them. He provided the officer the prescription, which was taken back to the pharmacy. At 8:16 pm officers assisted with a medical call at a residence in the 500 block of N. Olive St. An officer transported a female subject to ER to be evaluated by a medical doctor. During the event, the subject assaulted nursing staff and the officers. Charges are pending at this time. At 10:33 pm an officer investigated an accident in the 500 block of W. Lincoln Way. Rylie Moranville of Jefferson was eastbound driving a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Dan Moranville when she struck a parked 2005 Dodge 2500. The parked vehicle is owned by Mary Constatine of Jefferson. Rylie Moranville was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

Saturday, Aug. 13: At 4:54 pm an officer spotted a wanted female in a vehicle at HyVee. Miranda Lynn Schlicht, 23, of Ralston was arrested on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for violation of no contact order (simple misdemeanor)*. At 8:13 pm security staff at Wild Rose Casino requested officers to remove an intoxicated female from the property. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Angela Lynn Wadsley, 46, of Des Moines for public intoxication (simple misdemeanor)*. At 10:34 pm an officer was requested at the Greene County jail for an unruly female prisoner. The officer assisted jail staff in gaining compliance from the inmate. At 11:35 pm a caller provided information to an officer that a Jefferson resident may have illegal firearms. The officer is investigating.

Friday, Aug. 12: At 6:16 am a complainant reported a possible violation of a no contact order which occurred at HyVee. The officer has requested surveillance video from the business and is investigating. At 6:53 am deputies assisted officers with the execution of a narcotics search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of S. Maple St. Items of suspected narcotics and paraphernalia were seized from the residence and two vehicles. Charges are pending lab results. At 11:04 am an officer investigated an accident in the 300 block of S. Chestnut St. A 2008 Buick Enclave owned by Vickie Taylor of Jefferson was parked on the west side of the street. Nancy Halterman of Grand Junction attempted to park her 2006 Dodge Caravan in front of it but struck it. Each vehicle had a reported $2,000 in damages. At 12:32 pm a complainant reported the theft of baseball trading cards from a residence in the 500 block of S. Wilson Ave. Several thousand dollars worth of cards are reported to be missing. The officer has suspects and is investigating.

Wednesday, Aug. 10: At 2:01 pm an officer investigated an accident in the 300 block of N. Elm St. Two drivers were southbound when the driver in front slammed on his brakes. Roland Shaw of Jefferson was following that driver, operating a 1995 Freightliner owned by Decker Truck Lines of Fort Dodge. Shaw swerved in an attempt not to strike the vehicle, but in the process he struck a 2011 Buick Lucerne owned and operated by Lilee Deike of Algona. Damage to the semi rig was estimated at $250. Damage to Deike’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000. The driver on the non-contact vehicle left the scene.

Tuesday, Aug. 9: At 9:20 am an officer was advised by dispatch of a 911 hang up call from the 200 block of S. Olive St. Officers arrived in the area and located subjects standing near the street at a residence in that block. The officers’ investigation led to the arrest of Austin Ray Owens, 18, of Jefferson for possession of alcohol under legal age*.

Monday, Aug. 8: At 7:51 am staff at Hy-Vee reported a theft at the store the previous day. The officer was provided video of the subject scanning groceries at a self-checkout lane. The subject did not scan several items and placed them in the cart. The amount the store was deprived was $56.05. The officer has applied for an arrest warrant for Beverly Moore, 68, of Churdan for theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. The business has also banned Moore from the property. *****An officer has requested an arrest warrant for Jason Pirie, 41, of Callendar on a charge of theft- fifth degree*. The charge stems from a reported theft from HyVee on 8/03.

Sunday, Aug. 7: At 2:18 am a complainant reported he believed subjects were on their way to his residence in the 500 block of E. Clark St to shoot him. The officer investigated the event and did not feel there was an imminent threat. He advised the complainant to call police if anything else developed.

Saturday, Aug. 6: At 2:19 pm a complainant advised her Facebook Messenger had quit working. She called a number to correct the issues and gave the caller access to her device. She later discovered missing funds from her bank account. At 6:40 pm a complainant reported catching a stray dog at S. Elm and W. Vest Sts. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility.

Friday, Aug. 5: At 3:02 am a resident requested assistance with a suicidal subject. The subject had left the area in his vehicle before officers arrived. He was later located and taken to ER for an evaluation. At 7:57 am a complainant reported harassing text messages being sent to her daughter’s cell phone by a family member. The officer is investigating. At 8:32 am a complainant reported a possibly sick fox in the 1100 block of McDuffie Drive. The animal slipped away from the officer as he attempted to load it up for removal and ran away. At 12:21 pm a mother reported she believed her young children had stolen items from Dollar General. The officer is investigating.

Thursday, Aug. 4: At 8:26 am staff atHyVee reported the theft of alcohol from the store. He provided video of the theft to the officer. The officer’s investigation led to a requested arrest warrant for Jason Michael Pirie, 40, of Callender for theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. The value of the alcohol taken was $54.99. At 9:02 am staff at HyVee reported the theft of alcohol from the store. He provided video of the theft to the officer. The officer is working to identify the subject.

Wednesday, Aug. 3: At 9:02 am an officer assisted Greene County Ambulance with a medical call in the 700 block of W. Sunset Rd. During the event, an officer and EMS personnel could smell the odor of marijuana at the front door of the residence. At about 09:51 am officers and deputies executed a narcotics search warrant at the residence. A small amount of suspected methamphetamine and a smoking devise were seized for testing. Charges are pending lab results. At 2:43 pm a complainant reported someone had tampered with her door knob in the 1300 block of Ferguson Circle. The officer believed unknown subjects had used pliers attempting to remove the knob. There are no suspects at this time. At 5:51 pm a complainant reported falling victim to a scam on Facebook Messenger. She believed the message was from her friend advising her to pay money to three subjects, and then she would begin receiving money back. She sent $209.30 to an unknown subject before becoming suspicious. The complainant did not give out any personal information during the events.

Tuesday, Aug. 2: At 11:55 am a complainant reported a stolen vehicle. He is in Iowa working on a construction project at Landus Coop. A worker in his crew left in a company van, without permission to do so. The 2011 Chevrolet Express Van was later located in Texas. Charges are pending. At 1:24 pm a complainant reported a stray cat in the 500 block of S Cedar St. The officer placed the cat in the animal holding facility. At 2:05 pm a city employee reported damage to a picnic table. The employee witnessed juveniles carving into the table with pocketknives. The officer gathered information and is investigating; charges are pending. At 9:59 a caller advised of a loud argument occurring outside in the 600 block of W. Adams St. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Allyn James Case, 33, of Jefferson for public intoxication (simple misdemeanor)*.

Monday, Aug. 1: Routine activity reported.
