The Jefferson swim team made good use of the grant proceeds from the Greene County Community Foundation (GCCF) this summer.
Early this year, the swim team board applied for a grant to help purchase new rope lanes, two rope reels and covers to protect them. The total cost of the project was $13,181 and the GCCF supported the project with a $8,502 grant.
Many people benefited from the GCCF grant, as the Jefferson swim team consists of 89 athletes from 8 to 18 years old.
“Having good equipment is important to carry on a successful program that Jefferson has had for so many years”, says Kate Mumma-Law, this year’s swim team board president. This year, the equipment was not only used for practices and several dual meets, but also used for the conference swim meet, just held on July 9. Ten teams from the area participated in the meet and Jefferson finished in second place.
The Greene County Community Foundation has been in existence since 2005 and has awarded grants like this each year. Local non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply for grants to help fund projects that benefit the community. The grant cycle runs early each year.
