Greene County district court, week ending Dec. 3

In Greene County district court Alan Dean Tuhn, 37, of Jefferson was sentenced Dec. 1 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of theft- second degree, and five years in prison after he changed his plea to a charge of forgery. Both prison terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. On the theft charge, Tuhn was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He was fined $750 with a $112.50 surcharge on the forgery charge; that fine and surcharge were suspended. A judgment was entered for $581.17 restitution to HyVee. Court costs were $216.50. Twenty-two counts of forgery were dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Suiza Thawng, 36, of West Des Moines was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of reckless driving. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County probation for one year. He must pay a civil penalty of $855. Thawng also changed his plea to guilty to a charge of open container of alcohol in a vehicle. He was fined $260 with a $39 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $200 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Shane Franklin Clark, 42, of Paton was sentenced to one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury, amended from domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Clark also pleaded guilty to a charge of trespass, amended from burglary- third degree. On that charge he was fined $260 with a $39 surcharge. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees not to exceed $600 and $480.50 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Alicia Marie Hawkins, 31, of Jefferson was sentenced Dec. 3 to 180 days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Hawkins was fined $435 with a $65.25 surcharge. She must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $136.50 court costs. Charges of possession of heroin and possession of marijuana were dismissed. Persons pleaded not guilty to charges as follows: Kelsey Jean Brooks, 24, of Des Moines; possession of marijuana; and John Patrick Mahlberg, 26, of Dawson, operating while intoxicated- first offense. Brooks’ trial date was set for Jan. 25. Mahlberg’s trial date was set for Mar. 1.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Tammy Ann Tolsdorf, 55, of Grand Junction, possession of marijuana- second offense, and possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; Danyell Marie Freeman, 456, of Fort Dodge, driving while license barred; and Robert Alan Fry, 58, of Jefferson, gambling, false claim of winning.
