Home State Bank announced its newest Extraordinary Citizen last week. Local attorney Michael Mumma was chosen from a deserving group of nominees.
The Extraordinary Citizen award is local recognition given once each quarter by Home State Bank to an individual or group that has gone above and beyond by giving their time and/or resources to benefit their community. The citizen(s) must be nominated by a Greene county resident. A $100 donation is given on behalf of the winner to the organization of his or her choice.
Mumma’s nomination highlighted his many years as a Rotarian, serving as the school attorney and member of Grow Greene County. His support and efforts to make the casino and new high school/career academy a reality was also mentioned.

Not only does Mumma give his time, he has also helped several organizations monetarily including the Community Center, Mahanay Bell Tower, Thomas Jefferson Gardens and Greene County Medical Center, most specifically, the mammogram department which detected his wife’s breast cancer in the very early stages.
Mumma was nominated by his daughter, Kate Mumma-Law, who said, “If I can be half the person my folks are and do what they’ve done for this community, I’m a very lucky person.”
Home State Bank took the celebration live via Facebook, surprising the winner in person with an enthusiastic group cheering them while being presented with a mega size check for their charity, balloons and floral bouquet, reminiscent of a Publishers Clearing House winner.
Mumma selected the Greene County Christian ARC as his charity of choice. In addition to the $100 dollar donation from Home State Bank, the Home State Bank employees donated $240 of their own money which will be presented to ARC in Mumma’s name.
Greene County ARC is a non-profit food bank which provides food for local children, families and seniors.
Persons who want to nominate a community member or group for the Extraordinary Citizen Award, can pick up and application at the bank, or submit one online at www.hsbankiowa.com/award.
