Scranton planning for RAGBRAI July 23

More volunteers needed

The Scranton community is making plans for the invasion of 10,000-plus bicyclists when RAGBRAI® (Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) travels through the area on Monday, July 23. Scranton will be the last stop before the bikers arrive in Jefferson where they will stay overnight.

The Scranton RAGBRAI committee met earlier in April. They are still recruiting volunteers to assist in many ways. Old or young, there is a job for more willing workers. To volunteer, contact Cheryl Dideriksen at 712-652-3310. Please leave a message on the answering machine.

The committee is looking for donations. For signs, they need plywood scraps, no smaller than 2’ x 4’. Plans are to paint the plywood with white exterior paint using colored exterior paint for the lettering. If you have any of these products, please drop off at Scranton city hall or call Dideriksen.

Vendor applications are available at city hall or on the Scranton website: www.scrantoniowa.com. Applications for vendors must be submitted by May 10. Additional information on the vendor process is on the website.

If you have additional questions, please contact Dideriksen or city hall. ~The Scranton Journal
