Clay Ross was named May 3 as the 2017 Friend of Education by the Greene County Education Association.
Clay Ross is very active in the Community Players of Greene County, and it was his assistance with student drama productions at the high school and middle school that prompted teacher Darren Jackson to nominate him for the award.
Jackson noted that Ross helps build sets, run the lights, and locate props and costumes, and seems to be on call 24/7.
“Clay is also glad to train students in how to run the lights and sound booth,” Jackson wrote in the nomination. “Every year I see more students who have learned the values and expertise in becoming a necessary crew. These are kids who might be too shy to be on stage, but still want to be part of a production. Clay provides their guidance when directors have to focus on the performance.”
“Maybe we could put on plays at Greene County without Clay’s help, but I wouldn’t like to try it,” Jackson concluded.
