Jerry Roberts, a member of Jefferson Lodge #2306, has been voted Iowa N\northwest district Elk of the Year. The vote came at a recent district vice presidents meeting held in Jefferson. Roberts was first named Jefferson Elk of the Year and then nominated for the district award.
Roberts has been an Elks member for 50 years and a member of the Jefferson Elks Lodge since 2005. He has served as inner guard; lecturing, loyal, and leading knight; and as exalted ruler, in 2009-2010. He served as northwest district state vice president 2010-2011. As a grand lodge officer he served as esquire to the district deputy 2011-2012 and then as district deputy to the grand exalted ruler, overseeing the northwest district for the national Elks organization 2012-2013.
Currently he is serving as Jefferson Elks coordinator for public relations, auditing and accounting, and government relations. He is PER secretary. Roberts is public relations chair for Northwest Iowa. He has served as announcer for the Jefferson and district Hoop Shoot for several years. Roberts is an Air Force veteran and is chair of the Jefferson Elks veterans affairs committee which hosts the Greene County Heroes Dinner. He has devoted many hours of volunteer labor for various projects of improvement in the lodge.
Currently he a member of the Iowa Odyssey of the Mind board of directors. He is a state problem captain for the technical problem, a state judge, and has been selected as a World Finals judge for the past nine years.
Roberts is a member of the board of directors for Genesis Development, which has centers in 10 different communities. Genesis Development provides work, employment, and residential services for people with mental illness, mental retardation, brain injury, and developmental disabilities.
In Greene County, he is co-founder and member of the Greene County Community Impact Award board of directors. The award recognizes outstanding volunteers.
He served as a member of the Greene County board of supervisors 2006-2010.
As District Elk of the Year, Roberts is one of four finalists for Iowa Elk of the Year. That award will be announced in late April at the state Elks convention.
