First United Methodist kicks off year with Back to Church Sunday

The First United Methodist Church in Jefferson is again marking the Sunday after Labor Day, Sept. 13,  as “Back to Church Sunday.” Members invite all who do not have a church home to check out the Methodist Church.

The morning will begin with breakfast for the family at 8:30, with Sunday school for all ages at 9, coffee and conversation from 10 to 10:30, and worship at 10:30. The Sunday school sessions will include a new Bible study group targeted for adults ages 20-45 hosted by Pastor  Lynn Gunderson. Child care will be provided.

The Rev Julie Poulsen, pastor of the church, is particularly excited about a new family worship scheduled for Wednesdays beginning Sept. 16. A family supper will be served in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30 to 6 pm, and families will then worship together, at their tables, for about 30 minutes after the supper. Youth groups for grades 5-12 will meet from 6:30 to 7:15.

All young people are welcome at the Crazy 4 Christ program for grades K-4 Wednesdays from 3:45 to 5:30 pm. Three groups meet in the evening – grades 5-6, grades 7-8, and high school. There is no charge. Parents are asked to register their children at the church office at 307 S. Wilson or call 515-386-4411.

The Webb House is open Wednesday afternoons for students in grades 5-12 when school dismisses early. Students in grades 5-8 can use the upstairs and high school students can use the downstairs. All high school students looking for a place to do volunteer service can talk to Jim North.
