Greene County High School vocal music students had an opportunity to learn about singing jazz, and particularly improvisation, from one of the leading jazz arrangers in the country.
Jeremy Fox spent Monday afternoon at the school working first with the entire choir, and then with the Jazzatonics and students thinking of auditioning for the group next year. Pictured with Fox are (from left) Molly Hoskins, Jarrett Delp, Danielle Johnson and Kenna Marquardt.
Fox directed at Southwest Iowa Community College in Creston, where the annual vocal jazz festival has been renamed FoxFest. He now teaches at the University of Miami, but will be in Iowa again this summer to direct the Iowa All-State Jazz Choir. For more information about Fox, visit www.jeremyfox.net
Greene County choir director Dave Heupel said he was surprised to receive an email from Fox about scheduling clinic time. Fox’s clinician stipend came from the choir’s activity fund and the Activity Boosters Club.
