The week-end of Sept. 26-28 was a busy one for the Neese family. Friday, Emily Neese and Grandma Connie Neese drove to Mankato, MN, for the rehearsal dinner of Carrie Wilson and Tyler LaVern Neese, son of Deanna and Steve Neese. The wedding was held Saturday in Sibley Park at the Pergola, in a beautiful outdoor setting, with family and friends present. Emily was a bridesmaid.
The pastor was a friend of the couple. They met on their first deployment to Iraq, making the ceremony very special to the couple.
The reception was held at the Country Inn Suite. Attending from the family were Steve and Deanna Neese of Grand Junction and Lucas Neese of Mankato; Kate and Alan Neese, Emily, Josh, Molly and Max of Grand Juntion; and David and Barbara Neese Ovenshire, Keagan and Delaney of Palo. Renewing friends and blending families made the day very special.
Sunday, Sept. 28, Kate and Alan Neese hosted a birthday dinner for Emily at 209 Main in Paton. Guests were Grandma and Grandpa Feldmann, Uncle Don and Aunt Jean Feldmann from Jefferson, Ben and Maggie, G/m Connie Neese of Rippey and Molly and Max. Regrets were sent by Josh.
The Rippey Lions Club met recently. Harlan DenBeste introduced Doug Woods, administrator of the Perry Lutheran Home and Deborah Koelln, RN, chief care officer, to present the program. They shared the history of the Perry Lutheran Home on the site of the former Kings’ Daughters Hospital and the expansion to include managing the Spring Valley campus. Koelln shared information about the creative and welcoming care units for those with Alzheimers’ and other dementia related issues. At the next meeting on Oct. 16, Denny Lautner of Churdan, will be presented an award for his service to the community and the Lions Club when he was the officer in charge of the Rippey Post Office. For more information, contact Nancy Burrow, president, at 515-436-8266.
Midge Vannatta and her sister Pat Girton of Ames traveled to Kansas City to visit Pat’s son and Midge’s nephew, Bob Girton. Bob treated the ladies to dinner at an Italian restaurant, then they all went to Bob’s home to get ready to go to the opera, “La Traviata.” Bob wore a tuxedo and the women wore long, black dresses. While at the opera, pictures were taken and the photographer said they would be on Facebook. When they were seated, on the back of the seat ahead, was a place where you could get the lyrics in English or Italian. The opera lasted two and one-half hours, but they got back to Bob’s home before midnight!
Midge and Pat left for home the next day and had lunch at Toot Toots’ at Bethany, MO. They would recommend this place, as their meals were very good.
Continuing home, they stopped to see their great-niece Sydney Brock, at Lamoni. She is a student at Graceland College. They visited the gift shop before continuing their trip home.
Doris Brown and Jan Friess attended the cemetery walk held at the Jefferson Cemetery on Sunday. They reported it was well done and all the performers were very good. The lunch was an unexpected treat and it tasted good, also.
