The Greene County Schools board plans to sell the former East Greene football field in Grand Junction. Superintendent Brett Abbotts said an outside group has indicated interest in purchasing the property, but that the sale will go through the prescribed method of selling public property.
The board approved a resolution stating its intent to sell the former football field and a school-owned lot adjacent to the property to the northwest. The last time the district used the property was spring 2023 for soccer. The district carries liability insurance and mows the field at a cost of $2,500 to $3,000 per year.
A public hearing on the sale was set for Jan. 13, 2027, at 5:15 pm.
Holz, the only board member who lives in the former East Greene district, voted against the motion. Connie Boyd, Tim Riphagen, Katie Nelson and Cindi Daubendiek voted in favor.

The official count day for state funding is Jan. 15, so keeping the 11 early graduates that extra day allows the district to receive funding for them as if they were attending school the full year.
During administrators’ reports technology director Brent Gerzema reported he is working on developing a task force to determine how AI will be used in the district. Teachers, staff, Abbotts and Gerzema will comprise the task force that will meet monthly to develop a framework and policies for how staff and students will use AI. The board approved an out-of-state travel request presented by Misty Bettey, advisor of the newly revived International Club. The group will travel to London, Paris and Rome July 20-28, 2028 on a tour produced by EF Tours. The tour is for students in grades 9-12 that year.
