Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Sunday, Aug. 30: At 12:09 am a deputy investigated a report of gun shots in the 100 block of 250th St in Scranton Township. At 4:23 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1400 block of I Ave in Jackson Township.
Saturday, Aug. 29: At 6:50 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on R Ave near 295th St in Franklin Township. Gentry Lowe of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2026 Ford Explorer. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $15,000. At 10:57 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Scranton.
Friday, Aug. 28: At 12 am Michee Chinyama, 31, of Ankeny was booked into the jail for a probation violation*.
Thursday, Aug. 27: At 11:47 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 200 block of Main St in Rippey.
Wednesday, Aug. 26: At 9:50 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 200 block of Madison St in Scranton.
Tuesday, Aug. 25: At 5:41 pm a deputy investigated an assault in Dana. At 10:59 pm D’Ambra Knowles, 63, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for a violation of probation*. At 11:51 pm a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with a pursuit on A Ave.
Monday, Aug. 24: At 9:44 am a deputy assisted the City of Churdan with towing a vehicle in the 500 block of Jay St in Churdan. At 1:44 pm a deputy investigated a scam in the 100 block of 250th St in Scranton Township. At 5:43 pm Kenneth Manz, 41, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of theft-second degree*. At 10:35 pm a deputy, Jefferson Fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle accident on M Avenue near 260th St in Greenbrier Township. Zachary Knepper lost control of a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox after braking to miss a deer. The vehicle went into a ravine. Knepper self-transported with minor injuries. Damage to the vehicle exceeded value.
Sunday, Aug. 23: At 2:35 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 1800 block of 283rd St in Franklin Township. James Ure, 73, of Jefferson was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon*. He was later booked into the jail.
Saturday, Aug. 22: At 4:53 pm Bridgette Perez, 38, of Scranton was booked into the jail on a charge of animal neglect*. At 7:12 pm a deputy attempted to find two dogs running at large in the 500 block of Main St in Grand Junction.
Friday, Aug. 21: At 7:21 pm a deputy removed an abandoned vehicle from Cartwright St in Rippey. At 8:01 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in Grand Junction.
Thursday, Aug. 20: At 4:02 pm a deputy attempted for find a puppy that was running at large in the 800 block of Grant Street in Scranton.
Wednesday, Aug. 19: At 11:52 am Jeffrey Sprague, 49, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of harassment- first degree*. At 6:55 pm a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle near Hwy 144 and 130th St east of Paton.
Tuesday, Aug. 18: At 9:46 am a deputy investigated a theft in Churdan. At 12:30 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of forgery in the 1000 block of H Ave in Bristol Township. At 3:55 pm Kyle Habrich, 38, of Boone was booked into the jail for three violations of probation*. At 8:58 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 4 near 280th St in Franklin Township. A juvenile was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro and struck a deer. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $10,000. At 10:32 pm a deputy investigated an alarm in the 1000 block of Main St in Scranton. Two subjects were identified on video surveillance and charges are pending. At 10:56 pm Joseph Blackmon, 50, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of theft- third degree and harassment- third degree*.
Monday, Aug. 17: At 7:52 am deputies assisted the DCI with locating bullet casings near Hwy 4 and Hwy 30. They were investigating alleged shots fired at the Casino.
Sunday, Aug. 16: At 1:49 pm a deputy located a child missing from Winterset in Grand Junction.
Saturday, Aug. 15: At 6:06 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief near Hwy 30 and B Ave in Kendrick Township.
Friday, Aug. 14: At 12:48 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office, Iowa State Patrol, Carroll County sheriff’s office, Ralston Fire, Glidden Fire and Rescue, Carroll Rescue, Scranton Fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle fatal accident near the intersection of 210th St and Hwy 30 near Ralston.
Thursday, Aug. 13: At 12:53 am the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Jefferson PD responded to a medical call that turned into a barricaded subject in the 1600 block of Neola Ave south of Jefferson. The subject was taken to the Greene County Medical Center. At 7:52 am a deputy investigated a single-vehicle rollover accident on Parkland Ave near 222nd St in Jackson Township. Martin Wiggins of Grand Junction was attempting to turn around and backed into a steep ditch rolling his Chevrolet Avalanche onto its top. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $10,000. At 10:35 am a deputy assisted with a kitten that was found at Spring Lake. The kitten was taken to the animal shelter. At 6:39 pm Jason Charlet, 53, of Minburn was booked into the jail on charges of trespass and driving while license barred*.
Wednesday Aug. 12: At 2 am Bryant Margetta, 39, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of drug trafficking, controlled substance violation, drug tax stamp violation, and revocation of a pre trial release*. At 8:09 am a deputy arrested Craig Smith, 49, of Jefferson for a sex offender registry violation*. He was later booked into the jail. At 10:14 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief on K Ave near 170th St in Bristol Township. At 3:21 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 900 block of Stanton St in Scranton. At 6:56 pm Michelle Wenger, 56, of Bellevue was booked into the jail on charges of disorderly conduct and interference with official acts. At 9:11 pm a deputy assisted with an unruly inmate in the jail. At 9:39 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out near 230th St and J Ave in Jackson Township.
Tuesday, Aug. 11: At 4:01 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 4:57 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 2300 block of X Ave.
Monday, Aug. 10: At 1:54 am a deputy investigated suspicious activity in the 500 block of S. Wise St in Paton. At 8:21 am a deputy investigated suspicious vehicles in the 1800 block of Redwood Ave in Grant Township. At 10:16 pm Jeremy Dawson, 40, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for contempt resist a court order*.
Sunday, Aug. 9: At 7:32 am Brooke Coffin, 31, of Scranton was booked into the jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated*. At 6:22 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Churdan. At 7:18 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass near 230th St and Kirkwood Ave in Jackson Township.
Saturday, Aug. 8: At 8:23 pm a deputy, Jefferson police department, and Jefferson fire responded to an alarm in the 500 block of N. West St. At 11:59 pm Jaxon Meyer, 18, of Rockwell City was booked into the jail on a charge of consumption of alcohol as a minor*.
Friday, Aug. 7: At 4:35 pm a deputy investigated a theft in Churdan. At 10:31 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in Grand Junction.
Thursday, Aug. 6: At 11:41 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Churdan. At 2:49 pm a deputy assisted with a horse on the roadway near Q Ave and 295th St in Franklin Township.
Wednesday, Aug. 5: At 8:36 am a deputy picked up a dog running at large in the 1400 block of U Ave north of Grand Junction. The dog was taken to the animal shelter. At 5:02 pm Julie Simms, 59, of Scranton was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance- third offense, possession of marijuana- second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 8:03 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on M Avenue near 245th St in Jackson Township. At 9:01 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Grand Junction.
Tuesday, Aug. 4: At 2:23 am Alecia Tubbs, 27, of Churdan was booked into the jail on charges of operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana*. At 11:45 am Natalie Griesman, 19, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for contempt of court*. At 10 pm Karl Krieger, 33, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance- first, second third offense, (two counts) and control of a firearm or offensive weapon as a felon*.
Monday, Aug. 3: At 2:01 am a deputy assisted with cattle out on Hwy 30 near J Ave west of Jefferson. At 7:34 pm Issiaha Keegel, 29, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on charges of animal neglect with injury or death and animal abuse*.

Saturday, Aug. 1: At 6:54 pm the sheriff, deputies, and a Jefferson police officer investigated a vehicle in the ditch on Oakland Ave near 222nd St east of Jefferson. The driver ran from the vehicle into the wooded area. The Greene County K-9 and deputies tracked the subject and placed him into custody. Brian Weltzin of Grand Junction was arrested for operating while intoxicated- second offense, driving while license revoked or denied, criminal mischief- second degree, and destructive acts on public lands or waters*. He was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to provide proof of financial liability – accident related, and open container*. He was later booked into the jail on the charges. At 10:27 pm Daniel Tasler, 35, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on charges of violation of probation, possession of marijuana- second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia*.
*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
