Walker named to 4-H Hall of Fame

Eldo Walker has made a lasting impact on the Greene County 4-H program, especially through his dedication to the sheep project. His involvement began when his sons joined 4-H, growing into a lifelong commitment to supporting youth and strengthening the program.

Eldo has been deeply involved with the Greene County Lamb Producers for many years, serving as both a board member and president. Through this role, he has helped guide efforts that provide financial and volunteer support to enhance the local 4-H experience. His leadership is especially evident in coordinating the annual Lamb Producers banquet, a key fundraiser that supports youth programming. (He is pictured at his home with his wife Gina.)

Eldo was one of the architects of the Community Lamb Barn project, an initiative that provides financial support and a place for 4-H members to have a lamb project who otherwise would not be able to participate. The impact of this program has been significant, allowing 186 youth to participate in the sheep industry who otherwise would not have had the chance. His vision and dedication have been instrumental in making this opportunity accessible.

He continues to play an active, hands-on role in the Lamb Barn, working with members one to two nights each week from weigh-in through the fair. He teaches feeding, care, halter breaking, and show preparation, all while creating a fun and encouraging environment.

Eldo’s service extends throughout the fair, assisting with weigh-ins, supporting exhibitors, and volunteering wherever needed. Eldo is truly a mentor, leader, and friend who embodies the 4-H pledge—especially his heart to greater loyalty and his hands to larger service—making him highly deserving of the 4-H Hall of Fame honor.
