In Greene County district court Travis Ryan Armstrong, 37, of Scranton was sentenced June 30 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. If he ever serves the prison term it will be consecutive to the term in another drug-related Greene County case. Armstrong was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay $200 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense was dismissed. The charge in a companion case in magistrate court in which Armstrong was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Vincent Allen Michael Nichols, 34, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of sex offender registry violation- second or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for three years. He shall reside in a residential correctional facility until he receives maximum benefits. Nichols was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He was sentenced to two years in prison on a charge of sex offender registry- provide false information. That prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for three years. The prison sentences will be consecutive if they are ever invoked. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended He must pay a $300 probation enrollment fee. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment during the week ending July 3 as follows: Braden Gersema, 19, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Yvonne Marie Locke, 51, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana and gathering where marijuana is used; Angela Jean Peterson, 45, of Carroll, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense; Hunter Don Dennis, 21, of Casey, driving while license revoked; Connor Eugene Wood, 18, of Harcourt, operating while intoxicated; Benjamin Keith Potts, 37 of Granger, operating while intoxicated; and Max Sledge Crick, 36, of Jefferson, forgery. Trial dates were set for Aug. 25 for Gersema, Peterson, Dennis, and Wood; and for Sept. 29 for Locke, Potts, and Crick.
Cases were initiated during the week ending July 3 as follows: Max Sledge Crick, 36, of Jefferson, controlled substance violation- two counts; William Dale Chaney, 22, of Jefferson, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Steven Dale Ogren, 67, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated; Jeremy Wayne Alvis Beason, 28, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury; and Caleb Robert Pedersen, 19, of Rolfe, possession of marijuana.
