More military veterans receive Quilt of Valor

Six Greene County area veterans were recognized at the ceremonial quilt wrapping provided by the Perry Piecemakers Quilts of Valor group. Those recognized on Saturday, June 6, at the Jefferson Elks Lodge were Charles Derry, US Army; Robert Cairns, US Air Force; Dennis Lamoureux, US Air Force; Mark Thompson, US Army; Alexis Steven, US Army NG; and David Schrunk, US Army NG.

Partially funded by the Greene County Community Foundation, 35 quilts have been awarded during the past year to Greene County veterans. The VFW David M. Mosher Post 9599 serves as the Greene County fiscal agent for the Perry Piecemakers.

Any honorably discharged veteran may be recognized with a quilt. Applications are one page and request a history of the veteran’s time in service. They are available for self-nomination or through the recommendation of a relative or friend.

They are available at the VFW hall in Jefferson, the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Welcome Center, or any Greene County library.
