A groundbreaking event was held June 9 at the site of The Weldon, a 50-unit affordable housing development in the 400 block of W. Head St. KCG is the developer.
Greg Piklapp, director of Greene County Development Corporation, said the project “represents growth and opportunity for the community,” and called it “a major step forward in meeting housing needs” and “a great start to great things to come.”
C.J. Leonard, KCG vice-president for development, said the project will provide many benefits to Jefferson and Greene County, and that KCG will show that “affordable housing doesn’t have to be low quality housing.”
Jefferson mayor Craig Berry said The Weldon will be “the start of something that will progress.”
The project has been awarded $1,281,139 in federal housing tax credits for the project. The recognition of Jefferson as an Iowa Thriving Community was significant in KCG receiving the credits.
